The Big Play is in year two of a three-year initiative between Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities and The Hockey Canada Foundation, which is committed to getting 30,000 kids into minor hockey. Parents/guardians who qualify for financial assistance will be able to apply online at http://jumpstart.canadiantire.ca/en/ for funding through The Big Play to help their child, or children, participate in a hockey program offered at a hockey league or association that is registered with Hockey Canada. WHERE CAN PARENTS/GUARDIANS APPLY? They can go to jumpstart.canadiantire.ca and click on The Big Play icon. HOW TO REVIEW BIG PLAY APPLICATIONS? Click on the Electronic Application Approval button in the News and Alerts section to view The Big Play applications. The Big Play applications will include “Hockey Canada Application” in the submission type field. HOW DOES THE CRITERIA DIFFER FROM REGULAR SUBMISSIONS? Hockey Canada Association payees are already registered online. Funding is up to $500 per child as opposed to the current maximums imposed nationally or by your chapter. Should a child receive funding through this program, it will count towards their maximum $600 funding for the year, which means that they will be able to access up to $100 more to support them in another activity. Funds to do not come out of your Chapter budget. An alternate national The Big Play budget has been established that will be managed by Jumpstart. If you feel, however, that the documents that have been supplied are sufficient to validate the funding request, you can make that call and approve the funding request. Q. Can I Add a New Payee? A. No. All payees for The Big Play have already been registered in the system. Q. Can we accept paper submissions? A. Once you validate the application and review the child information (for each child within the application), click on the Submit button to send the application to the Jumpstart Regional Manager for review.

Q. What should I do if not all of the required proof of financial need documents have been uploaded?

A. If the parent/guardian has not supplied the required proof of financial need documents, you can email them directly and ask them to supply the missing documents. When you receive the required documents, you can then upload them, validate, approve and forward the application to the Regional Manager for final approval. If you feel, however, that the documents that have been supplied are sufficient to validate the funding request, you can make that call and approve the funding request.

button. If you do this, you will be required to provide a reason for declining the application. Should applications be declined for any reason or if cancellations occur, amounts will be reinstated to the budget for The Big Play to support subsequent applicants.
