as soon as they are available. He also said that we have been successful in securing the parking work for the Super Bikes and V8’s which is good news for us. Ted however will not be available to lead these events for us in the future so we need one or two of our members to undertake these roles. Please give this your consideration and let me know if you are willing to take on the responsibility. I also ask all members to put the dates of these events in your diary;V8’s: 20 -‐ 22 November 2015 Super Bikes: 26 -‐ 28 February 2016* Visit to Donations in Kind Peter Kelly provided an outline of the visit, which obviously those who went were very impressed with what they saw and heard. My thanks to Peter for organising this trip. Next meeting at the Fat Seagull 6.00 for 6.30 pm. Please RASV. -‐ President Keith

Once again we had an entertaining meeting last Monday. Our guest speaker was Paul Buckley, CEO of Bass Coast Shire Council. Paul spoke with enthusiasm about his role and the work he is doing and will continue to do lead his team at the council to be even more efficient and effective. His main themes were to ensure the vision he has actually is met by plans, which are actually carried out in a way that ensures financial stability and growth. He also spoke about the need for all who work with him to deliver on promises through effective performance management and accountability. It was obvious that he has a style of leadership that will be beneficial to all of us who work and live in the Shire. To exemplify this he told us that the Council had met 19 of the 22 performance measures he has set and that the Council had turned around financially from a deficit of $900,000 to a positive figure of over $1million. He answered all questions posed to him positively
Please “like” us and “tag” us and “share” us… lets get out there!
Congratulations to Jan Spiers for arranging a fantastic site visit to DIK in Footscray last weekend. A great turnout from the District and seven members from our Club attended. DIK is a massive facility run (remarkably) by three volunteers. Funded by donations and memberships it is manned on Tuesdays and Thursdays when volunteers from clubs, corporates and the public assist receiving, sorting and packing goods. Hospital equipment, school equipment and clothing are the bulk of DIK goods currently in store. DIK is essentially a very large recycling facility specialising in reusable goods. It collects goods from the community that are no longer required and gives them to people in need for free, nationally and internationally. Last year DIK shipped containers to 15 countries with shipments increasing by 15% over the previous year, and 156% over the last four years. Club support of DIK is essential for its sustainability and Clubs are encouraged to become a member of DIK to help with fixed costs. The annual cost for DIK to operate is around $72,000 which is made up of $47,000 rent and $25,000 general expense and van costs. Operating expenses are 1.3% and shipping costs 4.4% with the value of goods shipped being $5.5M. The return on investment is 1279%. An annual membership of DIK costs a Club $3,500 which goes to offset costs and ensure the good work of DIK continues. Clubs are encouraged to financially support via memberships, and to arrange for members to volunteer on a regular basis. Rotary can be very proud of DIK and the incredible value it delivers.

REPORT FROM THE EXIT GATE The exit gate is one of the essential functions of our secure bike parking and is manned from 7am when gates open to 7pm when gates close. People cannot leave or enter without the appropriate passes. Our team was continually busy checking passes and communicating with site visitors, it is a pleasant duty as the majority are friendly and thanked our club for our role in putting on a successful event. There was an extensive range of motor bike models parked in our paddock with a great range of colours as can be seen in the photos, of particular interest was the latest model Yamaha, every 2/3rd person stopped to have an inspection. Also of interest was the latest black bike cover “Bikekini”, all their stock was sold over the three days. The RAAF “Roulettes” team added their popular performance over the three days. President Keith was in his element re-‐living his days in the RAAF flying performance aircraft. Full marks to our club for putting another successful Secure Bike Parking role ably assisted by our friends of Rotary including members of Foster Rotary and San Remo Probus. Vocational Report for Rotary meeting 29/10 Our vocational program is on track at this stage with our planned trip to Dutson Downs finally taking place on November 9. We finished up with Kirsty's bus being full. The day was very successful, with everybody learning a lot about Dutson Down's composting facility and associated farm. I would like to thank David and Kirsty Mawer for making this vocational trip possible and also thanks to the Rotarian and friends of Rotary members who attended. Our next vocational trip is to the penguin parade hospital on November 29. Ian McFee, Chair

Dear Rotary Members, I am pleased to report a burgeoning relationship which is evolving into a partnership with Channel Nine and A Current Affair. Under the aegis of Philip Archer three further stories will be aired which will serve to promote positive public images of Rotary. I encourage you to promote these programs and build community following through facebook and twitter posts. On the 9th of November, ACA will be doing a special program to help James Lehane and his children who lost their wife and mother (Andrea) after she was run down by teenagers on monkey bikes at the Carrum Downs shopping centre. Following is a link: http://www.3aw.com.au/news/andrea-‐lehanes-‐family-‐says-‐mother-‐hit-‐by-‐monkey-‐bikes-‐wont-‐survive-‐20150925-‐gjunf6.html Around the 15th to 18th of December, ACA will put to air a story on Sharon Chan and how she is progressing and Rotary will be mentioned, and in fact we have been asked to be part of the program. On the 7th and 8th of December, ACA will be shooting a story involving the Choir of Hard Knocks which will go to air on Christmas Eve with Tracy Grimshaw. The story will talk about the amazing success the Choir has had in helping those socially isolated, homeless and unemployed to re-‐enter society. The Choir will be doing a tour of Australia to celebrate their 10th Anniversary from March 2016 and the funds will assist them to continue their work across Australia. Once again RAWCS -‐ Rotary Australia Benevolent Society (RABS) will pay an important part in sourcing funds to be placed in Trust. In Philip's words, these 3 programs will be beneficial to those whose stories are being told and also give Rotary in Australia, a massive positive public image opportunity. The growing partnership with ACA is one that Philip can be proud of, LET'S GET ROTARY in the NEWS Wendy Gaborit Zone 8 Rotary Public Image Coordinator 2015 District Governor 2013-‐14 Rotary International -‐ District 9520 South Australia
