What is the dot conf? The dot conf is a web technology conference for anyone who works, rests or plays with the internet. It’s a one day event and it’s free. It focuses on what’s real and what’s relevant, the right now of the tech world. Essentially it’s a teddy bears picnic but with internet folk instead of bears.

The event was introduced last year by National College of Ireland in partnership with the IIA and Silicon Republic, in conjunction with NCI’s launch of a new MSc in Web Technologies. Ireland’s internet community welcomed the initiative with open arms as a chance to come together, develop relationships, pick up some new skills and learn about the latest technologies, developments and industry news.

The dot conf is an engaging, entertaining and downright fun event, built around community and innovation. It brings together a broad spectrum of people, which includes: coders, designers, developers, entrepreneurs, freelancers, marketers, educators, bloggers, business people, SEO people, social media types and third-level students.

The dot conf: the sequelFor the second year running, more than 300 of Ireland’s internet movers and shakers will gather at National College of Ireland for the dot conf. Taking place on Thursday 2nd June at the college’s campus in the IFSC, Dublin, this all-day event will feature an eclectic line-up of engaging, inspiring speakers with great stories to tell.

This year’s keynote speaker will be John Collison, who in 2008, aged 17, sold the company he founded with his brother Patrick (Auctomatic) for $5 million.

Other confirmed speakers include Eamonn Fallon, CEO of Distilled Media (which includes, among others, Daft.ie, Boards.ie, Adverts.ie. and TheJournal.ie) and Colm Lyon, CEO of Realex Payments.

Why do we need your help?National College of Ireland is a not-for-profit organisation and the event is free and community oriented, so runs on a minimal cost basis. With your backing, we will have the opportunity to broaden the accessibility and reach of the conference, ensure the highest standards, best speakers and overall, create a bigger and better event.

Paul Rellis, MD of Microsoft Ireland, will be among the panellists discussing the future of technology in Ireland, and the day will also include a series of deep dives – practical, hands-on workshops that can be a little more technical in nature.

Like last year, the event will be followed by an after party which will provide a great networking opportunity and, at the demand of the industry, include cake. And beer.

Why Partner? The dot conf gives your brand the opportunity to mingle freely with Ireland’s most influential webheads. These select groups of people have the power to be strong advocates for any brand seeking to position itself at the forefront of Ireland’s digital community. This buzz-generating event has an innovative and creative community vibe and is also a fantastic networking and showcasing opportunity.

• With over 300 people in attendance last year, a waiting list of more than 100 and 813 unique visitors viewing the live stream, the dot conf has an extensive audience

• Like last year, the dot conf will be supported by a PR and digital marketing campaign. The first event booked out in record time after a lego animation promo video was released on YouTube. The video, which had more than 3,800 views, was uploaded on a Friday and the event was fully booked by midmorning on the Monday.

• Last year we registered a massive jump in traffic to the NCI website from the dot conf blog and twitter links. Prior to announcing the event, we were getting an average of 1700 unique visitors per day on the NCI site. That increased to an average of 37442 per day during the 6 weeks prior to the event.

• There were 14,000 unique visitors to the event blog, www.thedotconf.wordpress.com, in July 2010 alone.

• The online reach of the conference also extends to the 6,500 professionals on the Irish Internet Association’s mailing list, which includes suppliers of internet services and products as well as those using the medium for communication, marketing and commerce. The Irish Internet Association is the professional body for those conducting business via the internet from Ireland.

• The dot conf will also be promoted by our media partners Silicon Republic, Ireland’s leading technology news service, with over 220,000 unique visitors a month and 450,000 page impressions. Silicon Republic is Ireland’s one stop shop for breaking technology news on the ICT industry, communications, CIO strategy, venture capital, green tech, career, events and digital life.

•The event generated significant media coverage, both new and traditional. Morning Ireland, The Irish Times, Silicon Republic, The Examiner and The Irish Independent all covered it and it generated numerous blog posts and tweets.

“Looking forward to it again next year.”

“When is the next one?”

“…from 15 minutes into the dotconf, this jaded conference attendee was commenting to fellow attendees how great an event it was, and this didn’t decrease throughout the day.”

“…there was a definite buzz in the air that is often lacking from other similar events. From the pre-publicity to the organisation on the day, to the quality & variety of the line-up, to the welcome of the NCI staff, the excellent branding, livestreaming etc, the dotconf was a credit to all involved.”

“I thought the conference was really interesting, well planned and well executed.”

“Excellent level of organisation, very smooth running of the event considering the number of people attending and superb ongoing communi-cation in advance of the event.”

“As someone who has organised similar events in the past you guys played a stormer and found just the right level for your mixed audience”

“Here’s hoping you can do a similar event next summer.”

“Exceptional piece of marketing work for the whole event from preparation through execution to follow up! Timely, accurate, relevant & very enjoyable!”

“…it was really impressive both in terms of turn out and content. Great job by all that contributed. Well done.”

“Left the dot conf feeling informed, in touch and appreciative of all the effort. Well done all!”

“Thank you so much. It was greatly appreciated and look forward to the next one”
