This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of reflective leadership through the way I critique and apply theory to real life practice. Throughout the case study, I explain the importance of understanding the student affair professionals at Northeastern State University and the way they apply leadership theory to their work. Tempris Daniels- ePortfolio Reflective Leadership Reflection Form The artifact I chose to represent reflective leadership is my theoretical analysis case study paper from our leadership development course. This artifact demonstrates my knowledge of reflective leadership through the way I critique and apply theory to real life practice. Throughout the case study, I explain the importance of understanding the student affair professionals at Northeastern State University and the way they apply leadership theory to their work. In particular, I found this paper challenging because while I was able to make claims expressing how leader-member exchange (LMX) and trait approach theory were demonstrated in the case study, I struggled with the ability to build a strong case. Through speaking with the instructor, he challenged me to deliver stronger arguments by providing additional examples. This paper was a great learning experience because I became more knowledgeable about my writing style while reflecting critically on different leadership related issues in higher education. For example, in my paper I articulated the use of LMX theory in the work place and the implications that can take place when an office experiences in and out grouping. Understanding what leadership may look like in the workplace is important as I enter the field of higher education. Through the reflection of my leadership ability and style, I realize that the learning and development of my strengths is everlasting.Through my understanding of reflective leadership, I realize that my story is just as important as listening and empowering others through their leadership journey. As a new professional, I want to empower others but in order to do so, I must be willing to own my story and share it with others. The development of my reflective leadership skills, has allowed me to make decisions confidently, speak about my truth, ask questions, and challenge others with care. Even in doing so, I found it challenging to analyze and evaluate someone elses leadership style without critiquing my own. I realized that the development of my leadership style is not limited to my professional career but personally, where I can speak my opinion when talking to family and friends. This is important to me as I think about the role I play in promoting a just and safe community.
