The Primary Update Grade 2 — Grade 5 December 12th, 2012 WELCOME PAGE What a busy time school has been the past week. There has been a buzz in the air as you walk round the classrooms and the students have enjoyed recounting what they have been learning this week. We ended the week on a high with our winter concert extravaganza, which saw every student in the Primary school participate in our festive songs and dances. Although the sun may be shining outside the renditions of Frosty the Snowman, Let It Snow and Winter Wonderland certainly put everybody in the mood for the upcoming winter break. A wonderful effort from all involved. Wishing you a relaxing weekend, Best wishes Miss Williams

What a busy time school has been the past week.

GRADE 2

Grade 2 have been learning about division in maths lessons. The children worked individually, in pairs and in groups ’share’ cubes and work out the answers. The children have been using their knowledge of the 2, 3 and 5 times tables to help them with division and have been playing lots of times tables games and ‘loop card’ games to ensure that they know the times tables off by heart!

The children have had lots of fun learning about Dinosaurs for their IPC topic. Each class had to draw and paint either the Triassic Period, Jurassic Period or Cretaceous Period for out IPC wall in the corridor. The wall looks absolutely fantastic! The children worked in groups to paint the background and the dinosaurs.

GRADE 3

Grade 3 were working with Number in numeracy; completing number challenges and investigations. Some were completed quietly on our own, some took the whole class! Mr. Nolan's numeracy set were split into four teams and had to complete a giant numeracy challenge as a team. Over 20 students battled against each other and the clock!

GRADE 4

In IPC we have started our new topic “environment”. we have been learning about things such as nuclear energy and how it works.

At the start of our topic we went down to the library to the computers and Mr Godel (our library teacher )showed us which websites are good to look at for nuclear energy .We were trying to find out about how nuclear energy is made and what it is used for ! there were two websites for us. They were called encyclopedia Britannica and fact monster.

We know that nuclear energy is made out of atoms and that it can create heat and electricity. By the end of next week we will have written an information report using all our findings.

Come and have a read!

GRADE 5 On 10th December the Arabic department organised a trip to the Museum in Sharjah where the students enhanced their education about the culture and heritage about the UAE. The students observed many scientific principles that were discovered by Arabic scientists, looked at artifacts and Islamic calligraphy. This trip was an excellent example of cross-curricular planning where the Arabic and English staff successfully combined IPC with Arabic. In addition to the Arabic themes, the students observed how water is extracted from the ground which relates to their present IPC unit about water and they also observed scientific gadgets such as pulleys and cog wheels which they will be making in their next IPC unit.

ART COMPETITION

My reward I entered an art competition called the treasures of the U.A.E. I drew the

Hatta fort, I enjoyed it and it looked amazing.

I was so nervous and scared when I went to collect my reward that my hands were shaking a lot.

I felt like my heart squeezed like a vice.

I was so scared when they wanted to announce my name I was hiding

behind my father.

When they said my name I was shaking like a Chihuahua

but at the end I had calmed down.
