What is the trinity?

How do the persons of God relate to each other?

And how are we to relate to each of them?

The doctrine of the trinity can be defined as:

“God eternally exists as three persons, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, and each person is fully God, and

there is one God.”

Which means that, as God, God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit are also eternal,

omnipresent, omnipotent, infinitely wise, infinitely holy, infinitely loving, omniscient, and so forth.

Each has all the attributes we ascribe to God.

In summary, all three statements are true:

And the Spirit is not the Father nor the Son.

They are three distinct persons within the Godhead.

All analogies have shortcomings in understanding.

The persons of the trinity have different primary functions in relating to the world.

In Creation:

God the Father spoke the creative words to bring the universe into existence (Gen. 1:3).

They could also be called gifts of the Father or gifts of the Son.

They are gifts from the Godhead.
