It is inte~esting to note that Blackburn holds ~11 the short distance records and all the real lo ng ones while Mortland holds everything in between. Thi~ must mean soMething and I explau.ned it to Blackburn once but can't quite figure out what I aaid now. However, we will welcome theories of any of our learned rearlera;. PUBLISHER'S NOTES- -Accident or no a~cident, the race sequence for the Nat.iona]. Championships. th"i.s year was just about perfect.. The onl~r r:ieetings that were out of place were the t.wo mile, the 15· Kilo and the J,~ kilo. The year started out with the 10 kilo and builds up to the 5b kilo in the fall. (Ed. The one hour following the ;o is also out of pla-ce.) This arrange ment is good from the standpoint of a four work .. mts-per week waJ.ke:r 1.-i.ke myself. It gives you ro chance to at least prepare slightly for ea~h distance.

On the JO kilo-- The first, fifth and sixth place finisher& performed very poorly the evening before the race. In tiheir wanderings airound the teaming, SBething, wi~d city of Columbi~ these three , plus t ittle Tim Blackburn, happened upon er valuable playground find. The find was a perfectly balanced and well - oi]ed
