Gordon Leverton Tuesday, October 26 – 10:30 a.m.

A self-taught painter and drawer, Gordon Leverton has been working as a professional artist since 2006. After many years of involvement with the music industry, he sold his record store to take on responsibilities as a stay-at-home father and became

fascinated with his “adopted” city of Hamilton. Using acrylic paint and pastel to break urban landscapes down into their raw components, he captures unique shadows, colours, and angles hiding in everyday locations. His pieces reflect heavily on the themes of community and connection.

Gordon is a founding member of the West Hamilton Artists Tour (WHAT), a member of Hamilton Artists Inc., Hamilton Arts Council, and several other guilds and artist groups. His work has appeared in several publications, broadcasts, and journals, and is coveted by collectors. Gordon successfully engages people with his art through his popular Instagram account, @hamiltonartist.

Janet Horne Cozens Tuesday, November 30 – 10:30 a.m.

Janet Horne Cozens began studying art at the age of two in Japan and continued after her family immigrated to Northern Ontario. Her mother, a well-known Haiku poet, encouraged her to be creative and explore various media. Janet obtained degrees in

Music Performance on violin from the University of Toronto and later, studied Fine Art at the Ontario College of Art (now OCAD).

Janet moved to southern Ontario in 1980 and began her extensive career in music. More recently, she has rediscovered her passion for the visual arts. Her works reflect on the Japanese principle of Kintsugi, a technique which highlights imperfections or mended areas of an object as a means of celebrating its complexity and beauty. She speaks of her own works as “interpretations” of people and places that capture underlying feelings, beliefs and passions.

Janet is a member of the Japanese Canadian Directory of Artists, the Women Artists Association of Hamilton, the International Society of Experimental Artists, and Centre3 in Hamilton. She recently placed second in the 2021 juried show of the International Society of Experimental Artists for one of her mixed media pieces. Her work has been included in exhibitions at the Art Gallery of Burlington, Print London, the Headwaters Arts Festival, the Grimsby Public Art Gallery and True North Gallery.

More about Janet and her work can be found at www.janethornecozens.com.

Fall’s most creative art event is returning!

With the ongoing uncertainty around COVID-19 restrictions, we are waiting to see what options we’ll have to host the 2021 edition of this

much beloved event. We’re anticipating a “hybrid format” with an online component and a safe in-person option for viewing the artwork in

advance. Once we know what’s possible, we’ll share the full details.

Listen for your number to be drawn and then choose your favourite stunning art piece, each one showcased

in a little black frame.

Created by established and emerging artists, you won’t know who made your masterpiece until it’s in your hands.

Proceeds from this event will help support DVSA’s groundbreaking hands-on art programs for participants of all ages and backgrounds
