Product Specifications

All iCE 3000 Series spectrometers are completely automatic with full element capability. Control is via a data station running ThermoScientific iCE SOLAAR software under a Windows® operating system. Flame absorption/emission systems can be extended to graphitefurnace and vapour modes by the use of the appropriate accessory.

OPTICAL SYSTEMThe iCE 3300 and iCE 3500 instrumentshave the advanced Stockdale double beamoptic arrangement which provides maximumsignal to noise ratio. Sealed optics preventsdust and dirt from entering the optical channelswhilst all mirrors are silica coated.

Monochromators are self-calibratingand provide automatic wavelength and bandpass setup.

All instruments have high energyQuadline background correction which isguaranteed to correct for up to 2A ofbackground with less than 2 % error.

Lamp carousels have 6 data codedpositions each with its own independentpower supply which is modulated at200/240 Hz. Auto-alignment of the lampcarousel ensures maximum light throughput.

Flame systems• All flame systems are supported by the

enhanced Universal Finned 50 mm TitaniumBurner to accommodate all flame types. This burner can provide exceptionally lowcarbon build up, high solids handling, andflame stability. For extra sensitivity withair/acetylene elements there is a 100 mmtitanium burner available. The burnerheight is automatically optimized andthere are controls for the rotational andtransverse positions of the burner. A hightension electric spark provides automaticflame ignition.

• The automatic gas control system usesprogrammable array state logic and binaryflow switching technology for reliability.Changeover of oxidant gas, and fuel andoxidant flow rates are software controlledand interlocked to prevent operation withincorrect burners and gas flows.

• Gas lines are fitted with flame arrestors andpressure sensors which will provideautomatic safe shut down if the pressure inthe line falls below safe limits. If the powerfails the system will shut down safely.

• The ‘kitchen’ area is totally enclosed, draughtproof and has a safety door containing a heatand UV absorbing window.

• An inert fluoroplastic spray chambercontains an inert adjustable impact bead, flow spoiler, low memory hydrophilic discand built in over pressure relief. All flametypes can be used with the standard spraychamber configuration and burner supplied. The inert nebulizer has a Pt/Ir capillaryand PTFE venturi as standard and this isoptimized in the factory.

Furnace ControlControl of the furnace is from the SOLAARData Station via the spectrometer.Furnace cycles are set up within a rapid filltable allowing up to 20 phases to beprogrammed for temperature, time, ramprate, gas type and flow and special functionssuch as optical temperature control, readphase and non linear ramp. Individualtemperature look-up tables for all cuvettetypes ensure accurate temperature calibration.A lifetime display enables the cuvette to bechanged before failure becomes likely. Apre-programmed cuvette clean cycle isavailable, culminating in maximum temperaturefor 5 seconds to ensure complete contaminationremoval. Comprehensive storage of thefurnace program, together with spectrometerand auto-sampler parameters, is provided.Complete monitoring of all furnaceinterlocks is provided.

Furnace Auto-sampler

• All furnace modules are suppliedcomplete with an auto-sampler

• The attractively styled auto-sampler willaccommodate up to 60 samples in thelarge carousel. Carousel changeoverallows up to 500 samples per run. 6 largereagent cups enable up to 6 matrixmodifiers to be employed.

Variable Flow Auxiliary Oxidant KitThe Variable Flow Auxiliary Oxidant Kitallows the flow rate of the auxiliary oxidantgas supplied to an air/acetylene flame to bevaried over a wide range, in order to allowthe flame chemistry to be optimized whenusing less common organic solvents. If youwant to use your instrument to analyse thistype of sample on a regular basis, it isrecommended that the instrument shouldalso be fitted with the Solvent ResistantFlame Kit.

All iCE 3000 Series flame instrumentsare fitted with automatic gas control moduleswhich include a fixed flow rate auxiliaryoxidant facility for air/acetylene flames thatis suitable for the organic solvents mostcommonly used.

Solvent Resistant Flame KitThis kit contains the necessary replacementflame system parts recommended when thespectrometer is to be used extensively forthe analysis of organic solvents. It includessolvent resistant 'O' rings, a modified spraychamber, and solvent resistant drain tubing.

Universal Accessory Mounts

Graphite Furnace Cuvettes

Normal Cuvettes (Electrographite)The normal cuvette is made from a form ofgraphite called electrographite. This cuvetteis suitable for the determination of volatileelements such as Pb, and Cd in simplematrices, such as clean waters.

Coated Electrographite Cuvettes(Pyrolytically coated)This coated cuvette is a modifiedelectrographite cuvette, coated with a thinlayer of pyrolytic graphite. Coated cuvettesare required for the carbide forming, mediumvolatile and refractory elements and forsamples with complex high salt matrices.

Extended Lifetime Cuvettes (ELC’s)ELC's are unique to Thermo Scientific andhave a pyrolytic coating that is up to 10times thicker than the standard coating. This gives them more stable performanceand much longer useful lifetimes than eitherof the electrographite based cuvettes. These cuvettes are especially recommendedfor high throughout analyses with complexsamples and when measuring the mostrefractory elements.

Omega Platform Extended Lifetime CuvettesOmega platform cuvettes have anintegrated L'Vov platform built into thecuvettes, which makes them particularlysuitable for determining the more volatileelements in heavy matrices where vapourphase interferences cause severe problems. The integral platform is designed toaccommodate up to 50 µL volumes and socan provide excellent concentration limits. The omega cuvettes use the ELC coatingtechnology and have similar long, stablelifetime characteristics.

Hollow Cathode LampsHigh quality hollow cathode lamps optimizedfor use with the iCE 3000 Series spectrometers.

Data Coded Multi-Element and SingleElement LampsThe spectrometers read the list of elementscontained in the lamp and the maximumpermissible lamp current from the datacoding, providing maximum convenienceand removing the possibility of damagingthe lamp with excessive currents.

Multi-element lamps provide analyticalperformance comparable with singleelement lamps, while reducing your lampinventory and increasing the ease of use.

Single element lamps provide the bestpossible analytical performance.

Uncoded Multi-Element and SingleElement LampsMulti-element lamps provide analyticalperformance comparable with single elementlamps, while reducing your lamp inventoryand increasing the ease of use.Single element lamps provide the bestpossible analytical performance.

Value Range LampsA limited range of cost effective hollowcathode lamps for use with the iCE 3000Series spectrometers. Value range singleelement lamps provide analytical performancecomparable with normal lamps, at asignificantly reduced cost.

All Thermo Scientific hollow cathodelamps carry a 5000 mA/hr lifetime guarantee.
