Certified Thermometers1. Certified thermometers are compared at a temperature (or temperatures) to NIST Standards.

2. The thermometer should be certified at the temperature(s) you actually use in your lab.

3. The Certificate states the correction factor at each certification point.

4. The frequency of required recertification is determined by your regulator. As long as the thermometer is not broken, and the liquid has not separated, the certificate should hold. However, your regulator has the final say on this.

5. Our recommendation is to purchase one thermometer like the FC-370 or FC-3CX that is certified at all of the temperatures you use. Use this thermometer to annually recertify all of your point-of-use thermometers. Remember to use a TC-307 write-on tag to record the temperature, correction factor, and certification date and attach it to each point-of-use thermometer.

6. Please call NCL for quotes on custom-certified new thermometers. Please remember that it is usually more economical to purchase a stock thermometer rather than a custom thermometer.

Mercury ThermometersWe have discontinued all mercury-filled thermometers except for the maximum-

registering autoclave thermometer. Thus far, the manufacturer has been unable to construct a non-mercury version of the required accuracy. However, we can now offer you an autoclave

datalogger (which does not contain any mercury). Please see on page 376.
