A NOTE FROM BISHOP ZARAMA During the pandemic we the faithful have made every effort in the Diocese of Raleigh to exercise charity and compassion while safeguarding the health and welfare of one another. As we begin to emerge from the pandemic, we have a unique opportunity to give even greater witness as a Catholic community of believers. May our continued return to Mass provide us with even greater awareness of the beauty and

wonder of our faith and the importance of our relationship with one another as the body of Christ. Bishop Zarama has continued to dispense the faithful from their Sunday obligation. While this dispensation is applicable to all, it is continued primarily for the elderly, sick, those with pre-existing health conditions or other vulnerable people.

Wednesday at 1:15pm starting again on August 18. Contact: Eileen Campbell, 243-4327 . Liturgical Ministers NEEDED!

Altar Servers, Ushers, Extraordinary Ministers and Readers are always needed to assist at all weekend Masses, holy days and special Masses. Please contact Jean Stolarik (291-6230 or [email protected]) if you are interested in any of these ministries. There will be training sessions in September. Altar Servers have the great honor and responsibility of serving at the Altar of the Lord. Ushers are a visible sign of hospitality for the entire congregation. Their primary role is to greet people in the name of the Parish family before Mass. Extraordinary Ministers help with the distribution of the Eucharist within Mass. Readers proclaim the Scr iptures and lead the intercessions during the Divine Liturgy.

Children’s Hunger Elimination of Wilson (CHEW)

CHEW distributes weekend meals to chronically hungry students in Wilson County. The food is purchased with donations from civic and community

groups, individuals, and many churches including St. Therese. The real strength of CHEW is the many volunteers that give of their time and energy to staff the distribution centers and pack the food items for assigned schools. We would like to thank our faithful volunteers at St. Therese that have picked up, packed and/or delivered the food for Hunt High School this year. We could use a couple more volunteers. If you would like to help in this very worthwhile ministry, please contact the Church office. We will be off for the summer and will start up again on September 6.

SAINTS OF THE DAY

Aug 15 Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary The “falling asleep” of Mary has been celebrated since as early as the 5th century. Aug 16 Stephen of Hungary Died in 1038; first Christian king of Hungary; united and Christianized the Magyar people; renowned for his charity to beggars. Aug 19 John Eudes Died in 1680; priest; founded the Congregation of Jesus and Mary for training the clergy; also founded the Sisters of the Good Shepherd to assist morally endangered women, especially prostitutes. Aug 20 Bernard Died in 1153; abbot; reformer and spiritual author; preached against the Albigensians; founded 68 monasteries; preached the Second Crusade; denounced injustice and worked for peace; patron of Gibraltar. Aug 21 Pius X Died in 1914; pope; undertook liturgical and canonical reforms, especially communion for children and frequent communion for adults; condemned Modernism; wished “to renew all things in Christ”; patron of sick pilgrims. Aug 22 Queenship of Mary This memor ial, prescribed in 1954 by Pope Pius XII for May 31, is now fittingly celebrated on the octave day of the Assumption.
