These N’ Those Issue #1 July 4th, 2019 The 2019 camp year brought a BIG change to the camp with DC leaving and Woody taking the lead, becoming the sole director. I decided to ask Wood what this change would do for the communi- ty, how this would affect the structure of the brass, and, most importantly, what changes would he make now that he’s fly- ing solo. Woody started by explaining how im- portant DC was to not only him, but to Robin Hood as a whole, and how hard it is to fill that massive gap, pointing out that he misses DC as “a brother and a friend.” Additionally, Woody enlisted many new brass members and expanded the roles of Michelle and Scott. With the return of Lauren Zipkin, Sam Jonas, and Julia Cohen, he added “middle manage- ment.” As part of this new wave of brass members, Woody hopes to change the way camp will be, including getting the brass out of the office to go beyond their job descriptions and create a safe, nurtur- ing, and all-around happy environment around camp. Besides these specific changes made in the office, one of Woody’s priorities is in- creasing the amount of privileges senior campers receive. With the reestablish- ment of “middle camp” (Yeomen, Lanc- ers, Quills, and Arrows), Woody hopes to not divide the groups, but instead help them keep their separate identities and the benefits that come with them. With the FoShi and Scraxon beach day and Saxon and Scribe refrigerators, we have already seen this in full effect, and there are even more BIG surprises that Woody has not released yet. With many things to look forward to this summer, Woody reminds me of the importance of tradition and history at Wood in the Hood camp. Although this is a great opportunity for change and for Woody to put his own foot- print on camp, DC will be missed. “You don’t know where you’re going until you know where you’ve been,” Wody reminded me. The 2019 camp year brought a BIG change to the camp with DC leaving and Woody taking the lead, becoming the sole director. I decided to ask Wood what this change would do for the communi-ty, how this would affect the structure of the brass, and, most importantly, what changes would he make now that he’s fly-ing solo.

Woody started by explaining how im-portant DC was to not only him, but to Robin Hood as a whole, and how hard it is to fill that massive gap, pointing out that he misses DC as “a brother and a friend.” Additionally, Woody enlisted many new brass members and expanded the roles of Michelle and Scott. Summer 2019 is already in full blast and filled with many surprises. Whether it be the four laps or the gold level at the waterfront, Jeff, head of waterfront, is really making a splash in the Realm. I asked him a few questions about his first week.

Jeff made it clear he really loved the “water, water, water front,” but when asked which part of boys camp was his favorite, he re-sponded confidently that it was the compe-tition between boys’ camp and girls’ camp. Similarly, when asked what surprised him the most about his fourth summer camp job, he mentioned the close-knit relationships be-tween boys’ camp and girls’ camp, to which I responded, “Me too.” To Jeff, the co-ed feel really adds something special to the Realm.

Finally, I asked which tradition was his favorite so far, sure that he would have picked up on some already. According to Waterfront Jeff, our “unusual, but truly wonderful” dining hall dance parties re-ally warm his heart. I know I can’t wait to see more of Jeff this summer.

Along with Jeff and the other new staff members, there are many new campers this summer. I spoke with Spanish For-ester, Andres. From my conversation with Andres himself and those around him, it is clear he is going to shine in the Realm. When asked about his favorite part of Robin Hood, Andres struggled between answers but finally landed the friendships that are made, specifically his with Mer-cer Kruzner. Outside the HoodCharlotte Wasserman, Shire, describes some of the action that took place the first week in the realm

Tuesday, June 25The Tumblers, Scouts, TPJs, along with the Saxons and Scribes, hiked Rattle-snake and then to Squam Science Cen-ter. After discussing with the Realm’s iconic new group, the Scouts, I received some quotes from the group:

“Some say it was sprinkling. I say it poured.”“I stepped in a bunch of mud . . .oops.”

Wednesday, June 26The Squires and Jesters headed out.

Wednesday, June 26 The Shires, Foresters, Scribes, and Sax-ons went to Ogunquit Beach for the day, starting a new camp tradition. We found a spot on the beach near the water. My friends and I ate lunch, walked the board-walk, got milkshakes, and played sports on the beach. We can’t wait to continue the tradition next year!

Saturday, June 28: The Bards and Shires climbed Rattlesnake, the same mountain that the Junior Camp groups climbed a few days before. It is not a hard hike, but it has AMAZING views at the top. We could see a lot of lakes and scattered for-est. It was also really fun to go with an-other group.

That’s it for the trips. More coming soon.

Fuel in the HoodTyler Grossman, Squire, shares his review of a super im-portant part of camp: the food

The kitchen staff this first week has been able to energize all the campers and staff. They have given us everything we need to stay in the game. Some highlights have been smiley potatoes, chicken nuggets, chicken patties, and Belgian waffles.

Now to rate the food. I would rate it 4.5 out of 5. There was one food, eggs, that were un-dercooked one day, but overall the food was very good. Hopefully, it will continue to be good!
