The Hero Of Athens

Theseus was the founder-king of Athens like Perseus , Cadmus , and Heracles {Kyley}. He was the son of Aethra and his fathers were Aegeus the king of Athens and Poseidon the king of the sea. They both slept with her in the same night.{I know right , she had a busy night. }

Aegeus the king of Athens found a beautiful Women named Aethra she was the daughter of King Pittheus of Troezen a small city near Athens .Well on there wedding night Aethra went to the sea and laid down on the ground and Poseidon came and courted her. {I bet she enjoyed it to} The mix gave Theseus a divine looks as well as human characteristics , this is what happens to most Greece hero's .{ you hear that ,Theseus is a hero}

After Aethra became pregnant. Aegeus went back to his kingdom. Well right before he left he had dug a hole and put a pair of sandals and a sword in the hole and placed a rock over it and told Aethra that when Theseus grew up to unbury them so he could claim the thrown .{of Athens}When Aegeus got back to Athens he married Medea, Who was on the run for slaughtering her own kids.{Well she's an evil mother , and he's just stupid , they make a GREAT couple} Thus Theseus was raised on his mothers land, well when he had grow up his mother told him where to go to get the sword and sandals and told him where to take them and gave him two paths the deadly land route and the safe water route. He took the deadly land route. {What an IDIOT!}

The first site was Epidaurus. This place was sacred to Apollo and the healer Aesculapius. { that was a mouth full} there he meet the clubber a villain that would slam passer-bys in to the ground turning them in to pancakes and taking there things but Theseus turned the tables on him and used his club against him. {Now He’s a pancake probable not a good one though} The next place was at Isthmian there was a robber named Sinis or what most people call him is “Pintyokamptes” or the one that bends pine trees. What he would do is he would force people to grab a branch he would bend down then let go ripping there arms off well Theseus used Sinis method to kill himself. {It was Sinis who got killed not Theseus} On the 3rd portal it was not a man that was slaughtered it was a pig{a fat Pig at that} an old women had breed these monsters {she went to}

Near the city called Megara an elder named Sicron wood make pedestrians wash his feet on a long narrow cliff and when they were done he would kick them off the cliff where they would be eaten by a giant turtle and he would take there things but Theseus made Sicron wash his feet then pushed him of the cliff like Sicron did to so many. The 5th place was Eleusis there he meet the KING of this holy land Cercyon he challenged all who came by to a wrestling match and he always made a bet that whom ever won the wrestling match got the kingdom and the loser got killed by the winner well he always wins until Theseus won, got the kingdom and killed King Cercyon.

6th bandit was Procrustes the Stretcher who had two beds when passer-bys would want a place to rest he would offer one or the other bed and then make them fit in the one they choose by cutting off their feet or stretching them to fit. Theseus fit the bed he chose, then he made Procrustes lay down in one of the two beds ,he did not fit so theseus decapitated him and cut off his legs to make him fit thus using his method of torture on him as well.

Theseus arrives at Athens, he did not reveal who he was to anyone right away. Aegeus invited him to his home but was suspicious of what he was doing there. Aegeus’s wife recognized him right off as his son. She worried that Aegeus would realize and make Theseus his heir instead of Medus his step son. She asks Theseus to capture the Marathonian Bull in hopes of getting him killed .When this failed and he brought back the bull she tried again, this time with poison wine at the sacrifice of the bull, but Aegeus recognized the shield sword and sandals and stopped Theseus from drinking, both were happy and Medea fled to Asia.

It was not long after Theseus arrival that the Pallantides show up, he realizes that they are nephews of king Aegeus the want to be sole heir to the thrown ,the set a trap, the plan was half the men come up on Theseus and Aegeus from behind the other half would ambush in front. Theseus realized what the had planned .At midnight he crept out of the city he got the jump on them and killed them all.

Theseus volunteered to kill the Minotaur (half human half bull ) monster that lives in a labyrinth created by Daedalus , who was ordered by king Minos to keep the creature from harming the towns people. Theseus sailed off to find the monster at that point he sailed with black sails, he promised his father if he killed the Minotaur he would return with white sails. When he got to Crete he meet Ariadne, king Minos’ daughter she fell in love with Theseus gave him a ball of yarn and his sword back from the guards on the ship. She then gave him direction and information on how to and where to kill the Minotaur. When Theseus arrived at the Labyrinth he tied one end of the yarn to the torch post and started walking he hide his sword from the guards down the back of his pants.

When Theseus entered the Labyrinth he went straight, the instruction she gave were to stay straight or he would get lost. When he reached the center of the Labyrinth he found the Minotaur he pulled out his sword, he overpowered the beast and stabbed him in his throat, decapitating the monster. Theseus used the yarn to find his way out ,when he left he was in such a rush that he forgot to change the sails from black to white , when he reached the port of Athens his father the king committed suicide.

the ship of Theseus was sea worthy for several centuries. To honor Theseus great deeds, the Athenians pledge to honor Apollo every year because it was Theseus thing to pray to Apollo. The Athenians preserved his ship so much so that no one knew how much of the ship was original but the reason was to remember Theseus as an actual historical , mythical figure.

THESEUS had many more advancers then what was in this PowerPoint I’m sorry that I couldn’t fit them all in BUT hear is some imformshin that is not heroic he got a wife she had 1 boy and she died then his second wife had 2 boys and she fell in love with his first wife's son and he was killed by Theseus because he thought That he had raped his wife well when he died the second wife committed suicide

The death of Theseus Happened at the end of the Trojan war. Lycomedes the king of the island of Skyrons throw theseus off a cliff after he lost popularity in Athens. When they fond his remands on Athens beach it was a Dark day in Athens. Many his remands “ a coffin of a great hero with a bronze spear-head by its side and a sword.
