WELCOMING BLESSINGS, HOPE AND PEOPLEBeing welcomed is a great experience. When we are welcomed into places such as a new home, neighborhood, workplace, school or parish, we feel accepted, cared for and supported. The Scriptures for this Sunday are stories of welcome and hospitality. The prophet Elisha is given his own room in someone else?s house (Kings 4:8-16). In the Gospel, Jesus says that those who welcome his disciples welcome him and even the simple act of giving a cold cup of water to someone will be rewarded (Matthew 10:37-42). In the Letter to the Romans, Paul gives us the reassurance that through our Baptism

into the death and resurrection of Jesus, we will one day be welcomed into the newness of his l ife and glory (Romans 6:3-11).

The gif t of the room provided for Elisha invites us to welcome blessings into our lives. Sometimes we get focused so much on our problems or so involved in our many activit ies that we fail to notice and embrace life?s blessings. It is especially l ikely during these days of the pandemic and so much civil unrest that all we can see are the dif f iculties. I know a priest who will not l isten to a person?s problems until they f irst name their blessings. We know the phrase, ?Count your blessings.? Do we?

Paul?s admonition to think of ourselves as dead to sin and alive for God in Christ beckons us to welcome hope into our lives which are often bombarded with negativity and pessimism. How well we know these days of the poison of hate, bitterness, jealousy, cynicism, deceit, racism and prejudice that plagues our world. These same mindsets can slowly but surely creep into our lives. Eventually they can inf luence our daily attitudes and actions. The way to hopeful l iving is to welcome positive people, inspirational reading, beautiful music and wholesome entertainment.

Jesus? directive to give somebody a cold cup of water prompts us to think about who we are currently welcoming into our lives. Sometimes we get isolated within our own circle of family and friends. Who might we be shutting out and how could we open the door again? Our 4th of July celebrations of freedom this coming Saturday can urge us to welcome those who have been estranged either l iterally or in our hearts. What great days to welcome blessings, hope and people into our lives.

FAREWELL TO SISTER KIT GRAY AND SISTER THERESA TRANG NGUYENAfter many years of faithful service to Christ Cathedral Parish, Sister Kit Gray, CSJ, and Sister Theresa Trang Nguyen, LHC, have been reassigned by their respective congregations. We thank Sister Kit for her seven years of service as the Director of Mission Integration and Ongoing Formation. Sr. Kit?s community building skil ls, welcoming presence and generous spirit have truly helped Christ Cathedral to be a place of community, hospitality and generosity. Sr. Theresa has blessed us for nine years as the Director of Faith Formation. Her ability to organize complex events and programs, call forth people to serve and zeal for helping people to know Christ?s love have touched the lives of countless children, young people and adults. We are so grateful to these Sisters for their tremendous contributions to the parish. Their last day with us will be June 30, 2020. We send them forth with our love and prayers as they begin their new ministries.

RESUMPTION OF REGULAR HOURS FOR CONFESSIONWe are pleased to announce that regular hours for confession will begin on Friday, June 26, 2020, 7:15 p.m.-8:15 p.m. and at that same time on all Fridays in the future. Confessions will also be heard on Saturdays, 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. Location of confessions will be outside the main entrance of the cathedral (south side). A priest will be on the plaza east of the main entrance and on the plaza west of the main entrance. We will continue with this schedule and these locations until further notice.

CHRIST CATHEDRAL PARISH COMMUNITY OUTREACHDue to the 4th of July fall ing on a Saturday, CCPCO?s 1st Saturday grocery distribution is being moved to Saturday, July 11. Please stop by the distribution center behind the Arboretum on Saturday, July 11 between 10:00 and noon to receive groceries.

PUBLIC CELEBRATION OF MASS AT CHRIST CATHEDRALThe resumption of our regular Mass schedule began the weekend of June 13/14. Thank you to everyone who has helped make this possible. Bishop Vann continues to extend a dispensation from the obligation to attend Mass on Sunday and Holy Days of Obligation until such time as it is deemed safe to have large gatherings again.

We will continue to livestream the 9:45 am, 11:30 am and 1:15 pm Masses. For more detailed information and the most current updates, please visit the parish website: Parish.ChristCathedralCaliforni.org.

Ser bienvenido es una gran experiencia. Cuando estamos en lugares tales como un nuevo hogar, barrio, trabajo, escuela o parroquia, nos sentimos aceptados, cuidados y apoyados. Las lecturas para este domingo son historias de recibimiento y hospitalidad. El profeta Eliseo es dado su propia habitación en casa de otra persona (Reyes 4:8-16). En el Evangelio, Jesús dice que los que reciben a sus discípulos lo reciben a él también, el simple hecho de dar un vaso con agua fría a alguien será recompensado (Mateo 10:37-42). En la carta a los

Romanos, Pablo nos da la tranquilidad que, a través de nuestro Bautismo en la muerte y resurrección de Jesús, un día seremos recibidos en la novedad de su vida y gloria (Romanos 6:3-11).

El regalo de la habitación para Eliseo nos invita a dar la bienvenida a las bendiciones en nuestras vidas. A veces nos quedamos centrados tanto en nuestros problemas o tan involucrados en nuestras actividades que no somos capaces de notar y aceptar las bendiciones de la vida. Es especialmente probable durante estos días de la pandemia y tanto malestar civil que todo lo que podemos ver son las dif icultades. Conozco a un sacerdote que no escuchaba los problemas de las personas hasta que no primero nombraran sus bendiciones. Todos conocemos la frase, "Cuenta tus bendiciones". ¿Lo hacemos?

La advertencia de Pablo de pensar en nosotros mismos como muertos al pecado y vivos para Dios en Cristo nos llama a dar la bienvenida a la esperanza en nuestras vidas que a menudo son bombardeados con negatividad y pesimismo. Qué bien conocemos en estos días el veneno del odio, la amargura, los celos, el cinismo, el engaño, el racismo y los prejuicios que azotan nuestro mundo. Estas mismas mentalidades pueden entrar lentamente pero seguramente en nuestras vidas. Eventualmente pueden inf luir en nuestras actitudes y acciones diarias. La forma de vivir esperanzado es dar la bienvenida a personas positivas, lectura inspiradora, música hermosa y entretenimiento saludable.

La directiva de Jesús para dar a alguien un vaso frío de agua nos impulsa a pensar en la gente a la que le daremos la bienvenida en nuestras vidas estos días. A veces nos quedamos atrapados en nuestro propio círculo de familiares y amigos. ¿A quién podríamos estar dejando afuera y ¿cómo podemos abrir la puerta nuevamente? Nuestras celebraciones del 4 de julio este próximo sábado son un festejo de nuestra libertad que nos puede ayudar a dar la bienvenida a aquellos que han sido hechos un lado ya sea literalmente o en nuestros corazones. Qué grandes días para recibir bendiciones, esperanza y personas en nuestras vidas.

NOTICIAS CATÓLICAS / ANUNCIOSADIÓS A LA HERMANA KIT GRAY Y LA HERMANA THERESA TRANG NGUYENDespués de muchos años de servicio f iel a la Parroquia de la Catedral de Cristo, la Hermana Kit Gray, CSJ y la Hermana Theresa Trang Nguyen, LHC, han sido reasignadas por sus respectivas congregaciones. Agradecemos a la Hermana Kit por sus siete años de servicio como Directora de Integración de Misiones y Formación Continua. La Hermana Kit con sus habilidades de crecimiento entre las comunidades, junto con su presencia acogedora y el espíritu generoso han ayudado verdaderamente a la Catedral de Cristo a ser un lugar de comunidad, hospitalidad y generosidad. La Hermana Theresa nos ha bendecido durante nueve años como Directora de Formación de Fe. Su capacidad para organizar eventos y programas complejos, l lamar a las personas a servir y su pasión por ayudar a las personas a conocer el amor de Cristo han tocado la vida de innumerables niños, jóvenes y adultos. Estamos muy agradecidos a estas Hermanas por sus tremendas contribuciones a la parroquia. Su último día con nosotros será el 30 de junio de 2020. Las enviamos con nuestro amor y oraciones al comenzar sus nuevos ministerios.

REANUDACIÓN DE HORARIOS REGULARES PARA CONFESIÓNNos complace anunciar que el horario regular de confesión comenzará el viernes 26 de junio de 2020, de 7:15 p.m. a 8:15 p.m. y a la misma hora todos los viernes en el futuro. Las confesiones también se escucharán los sábados, de 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. La ubicación de las confesiones será afuera de la entrada principal de la catedral (lado sur). Un sacerdote estará en la plaza al este de la entrada principal y en la plaza al oeste de la entrada principal. Continuaremos con este horario y estos lugares hasta nuevo aviso.

CHRIST CATHEDRAL PARISH COMMUNITY OUTREACHDebido a que el 4 de julio cae en el primer sábado, la distribución de comida del primer sábado de CCPCO se traslada al sábado 11 de julio. Por favor, pasa por el centro de distribución detrás del Arboretum el sábado 11 de julio entre las 10:00 am y el mediodía para recibir provisiones.

CELEBRACIÓN PÚBLICA DE MISAS EN LA CATEDRAL DE CRISTOLa reanudación de nuestro horario regular de Misa comenzó el f in de semana de junio 13 y 14. Gracias a todos los que ayudaron en hacer esto posible. El Señor Obispo Vann sigue extendiendo una dispensa de la obligación de asistir a Misa los domingos y días santos de obligación hasta el momento en que se considere seguro poder tener grandes reuniones. Continuaremos con las Misas en vivo a las 9:45 am, 11:30 am y 1:15 pm. Recuerde que la participación en la Misa dentro de la catedral se limita a las primeras 100 personas que llegan. Las máscaras deben ser usadas por todos. Continuaremos transmitiendo nuestras Misas de f in de semana a la plaza de la catedral.
