From the Acting Principal......
Dear Parents / Caregivers,
In order to future proof our children we must work together to foster and develop the twoingredients of resilience and adaptability in our children/students to enable them to facethe uncertainty of their future. Our children/students will not be able to rely on academicqualifications alone, they will also need emotional and mental flexibility as well asresilience. The best way to foster these is to work hard on fostering and consciously onthe bond you have with your children. The safer your child feels in their relationship and
love the more confidence and self-esteem they will have to go out and face the real world. Once this bond has been developed it is time to work on teaching children how to learn.
We have to stop doing everything for our children and stop the endless stimuli to ensurechildren are never bored and never have to work out what to do next for themselves. Stophovering over them so that they never get to graze their knees if they fall and resist theurge to leap in and guide them to the right answers. Instead let them play games of theirown and let them fail to problem solve and learn.
To be successful in business leadership you will need good personal and emotional skillsto bond with and lead other people. The seven top characteristics of successfulemployees are coaching, listening well, and making connections with others to solvecomplex problems. Occupations requiring these skills have seen a net increase of 1.9million jobs between 2001 and 2016 and these skills are only going to become moreimportant.
Instead of a career for life the students being educated in schools now predicted to havehad 10 different jobs by the time they are 40. Chances are they will be freelancers pickingup jobs outsourced by companies across the globe.
The six tips for futureproofing your children and our students during their childhood are: -
1. Allowing them to play – Allowing children to work out answers as they play2. Allowing them traits not subjects – make all learning rigorous and stringent focus on
resilience, optimism and adaptability3. Not hovering over them – resist solving their problems for them4. Allowing them to take risks – allow them to be good judges of risk5. Celebrate boredom – if children are never alone they will always be lonely when
they are alone6. Realising machines are not the enemy – control the use of machines rather than
allowing machines to control the use of your time
Kind Regards Sharon Willoughby

Japanese News
Konnichiwa,
On Tuesday 28th August we celebrated Australia's links with Asia here at Aberfoyle ParkPrimary School Campus on a sunny winter's day. The students engaged in a market placewhere various games, sports, arts and crafts, music and performances from all aroundAsia were there to try. In the previous week we enjoyed a performance of Rakugo andKyogen (Japanese style comedy). The canteen also provided a special lunch to allowstudents to try some Asian flavours and the day was completed by viewing an Asianmovie.
I would like to thank the children, teachers and volunteers for Asia week.

SPARK - 'Game Changes and Change Makers'
‘Game Changes and Change Makers’ Excursion
The theme of National Science Week this year was ‘Game Changers and ChangeMakers,’ with a focus on the scientists, engineers, technologists, mathematicians, designers and innovators of the past and present who have made, and are making, greatimprovements to the way we live.
On Friday the 24th of August, the SPARK students ventured over to Aberfoyle ParkLibrary to see how students from the Aberfoyle Park High School are using the latest inscientific investigative tools. We got to see how ‘PASCO Data Loggers’ measuretemperature, PH, speed and acceleration. PASCO Data Loggers are hands-on probewareand data logging solutions connecting students directly to science and STEM conceptswith classroom technology such as sensors, interfaces and data collection and analysissoftware.
Please see below some of the photos taken from the excursion.

Campus SLT Student Forum #3
On Monday our four Campus Student Leadership students hosted Forum #3 in the PAC.Our Thiele students worked with the four Students Leadership students from Nativity andPilgrim as well as students from Eden Hills PS, Blackwood PS, O’Sullivan’s BeachMontessori School and St John’s Grammar School to share their sustainability projects.
Our students shared their plan and site for the Nature Play Area they will be working on in
the October school holidays and took the group for a walk to our local creek to teach themabout the local plants and their importance to our local birds and wildlife.
The students were taught how to make newspaper pots and planted sunflower seeds sothat they can feed local birds once the sunflower plant grows and bees wax wraps. Theyalso participated in a game called “The Web of Life” where they experienced theimportance of nature and the impact both positive and negative man can have on nature.
The main theme on the day was sustainability and the importance of the letter R not onlyin the words of – reduce, reuse, recycle, but also in rethink and repair. We also thoughtabout the concept of ‘need’ and ‘want’
The students are looking forward to their day in the holidays where they are planning towork together to create the Nature Play Area.
