Supporting traditional services
• Many Third Sector information professionals are incorporating 2.0 processes into their workflow – e.g. picking up news through RSS / atom feeds
(Access The College of Optometrists Library pages here)
Creating 2.0 Services
• Inner Temple Library offers a current awareness blog (inc. feeds), twitter (inc. feed), widget, Facebook page, flickr (inc. feed) and a wiki of court transcripts (inc. feed)
Social Networking
• Local causes like this can use social networks to reach
supporters outwith their geographic area.
Social Networking Facilities
• The research jury is still out on the cost-benefit ratio of building your own gated community, but potential advantages include providing added value to members, increased web-traffic and brand loyalty. (cf Communities)
Raising Awareness
• Josie Crimp uses her LiveJournal blog to document her experience at the NPH Children’s Home in Mexico, which raises awareness of the charity and VSO generally.
Many of the most exciting things are happening outside the library :
Campaigning & Comms Rule!
• Information Professionals need to network and sell our skills:
“Change will not come if we wait for some other person or some other time. We are the ones we’ve been waiting for. We are the ones that we seek.”
~ Barack Obama February 2008
