CHURCH VIGIL CANDLE INTENTIONS

FLAME OF FAITH INTENTIONS

To Put It Simply

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Definition of “Perpetual Adoration:” a chapel with

Jesus exposed in the Eucharist that is open 24 hours a

day, 7 days a week and one or more individuals are

present with Him at all times. You can’t have

Perpetual Adoration unless all the hours are filled and

at the present time here at Vis there are

3 EMPTY hours, Sunday 1-2 AM, Sunday 4-5 PM

and Wednesday 3-4 PM.

Our registered adorers, who are committed to being

with Jesus for one hour a week, are worth their

weight in gold. Though we have a small list of

adorers who will gladly sub for us when needed, the

problem of empty hours can only be alleviated by

having new people step up and register for an hour.

Schedules change, people move, hours need to be

filled and new registered adorers are always needed

and welcomed. When two or more adorers share the

same hour, the responsibility for making sure that

Jesus is never left alone is lessened because they can

“cover” for each other and work out a schedule

together.

There are 3 EMPTY hours: Sunday 1-2 AM, Sunday

4-5 PM and Wednesday 2-3 PM. The following

hours are in need of a prayer partner: Sunday 4pm,

Tuesday 7am, Friday 1am, Friday 4pm, Friday 6pm,

Saturday 4am, Saturday 9am. Contact Mary Lewis at 630 941 9173 or Joan Taylor at 630 530 8963 to

register.

MASS INTENTIONS GOSPEL REFLECTION

December 15, 2019

Third Sunday of Advent

Who did you come to see? A version of this question is

posed by Jesus many times in the Gospels. He asks it of

Andrew and John when they begin to follow him. He asks

it of Mary Magdalene in the garden of the resurrection. He

asks it in today’s Gospel. “What did you go out to the

desert to see?” There is something innately human about

“seeing.” Animals have eyes — some with much more

powerful vision than our own — but that’s not the kind of

seeing Jesus is talking about. We could phrase the question

several other ways. “What are you looking for?” “What are

you longing for?” “Whom do you seek?”

It is in seeing for ourselves that our suspicions or

hypotheses are confirmed, that our desires discover their

fulfillment, and that we can rest for a moment in certainty.

John the Baptist sought certainty of Jesus’ identity. “Are

you the one who is to come, or should we look for

another?” Jesus sends word to him based on the testimony

of sight, observations of the mighty deeds Jesus has begun

to work. “Go and tell John what you hear and see.”

God recognizes our desire to see. In the Incarnation, the

Word is made flesh. The invisible is made visible. The

supernatural is made manifest in an infant who can do little

more than the most natural of movements as he feeds,

cries, sleeps. We don’t need to wait for Christmas to see

God. The work of God is all around us. Those blinded by

sin “regain their sight.” People overcome backgrounds of

poverty and violence to make world-changing

contributions. Addicts grow and heal. Truth is spoken, and

people listen. Let’s pray for the grace to see God’s

movement in our lives this week. How have you seen the

work of God?

“I will give you a new heart,

a new spirit within you.”

Last year, I attended my first CRHP Retreat. I was

truly humbled and moved by the many shared stories

of God’s faithfulness and tender mercies that were

shared with us. That frigid January weekend, the

curtain opened and warm heavenly light and grace

streamed down on all the souls gathered in the

Church basement.

“Where two or more are gathered in my

name…” Jesus promises that He will

be there. And boy was He! This event is

so much more than a mere girls night

out type weekend. The pampering that

takes place here is to your heart and spirit. Your Vis

sisters will serve you delicious meals. You won’t have

to lift a finger. This will help you in turn to lift your

hearts. Take time for yourself this January. Be

renewed from Heaven above and follow Jesus deep

within.

Save the date for the next women’s Christ Renews

His Parish retreat January 25 and 26, 2020. Watch

the bulletin for more information or contact Mary

McCann at 630-605-8817.

The VIS seniors would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and

Happy New Year!

Sacrament of Penance

Friday, December 20, 7 pm

Let us prepare our hearts and “straighten the crooked

paths that we have taken in our lives” by attending the
