Forty years after the death of Jesus a generation of Jews would weep for the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem. They wept for the absence of their holy place not for the loss of the marketplace that had grown about it. As we journey with Jesus deeper into Lent let us consider what this gospel means to us. Jesus bringing anger into the sacred place is difficult, for, as people of faith, we feel we should leave anger at the church door, yet it was Jesus’ love for God, the temple and its people which motivated his actions! Acceptance and indifference change nothing. People angered by injustices fight in the belief that things should be different - just. There is righteous anger, an honest reckoning that looks at the world as God looks at the world. The hope is, as we move into 2021 that the current vaccine rollout will eventually provide some relief from the pandemic that has blighted all our lives over the past twelve months. As we prepare to celebrate the Feast of St Joseph let us support one another through our prayers and the intercession of our blessed patron, St Joseph.
