Fomentar una Compresión más Profunda de las Escrituras.

Muchos prefieren un enfoque de la vida de "crear sobre la marcha", en el que las leyes y los protocolos existen principal-mente para asegurar y proteger las liber-tades en lugar de dictar y delinear el com-portamiento adecuado y correcto. No existen puntos de referencia reales para un comportamiento ético y moral acepta-ble, y prevalece una actitud de "no puedes decirme qué hacer". Los padres incluso están limitados en lo que pueden pedir a sus hijos, y lidiar con los compor-tamientos amenazantes, especialmente de los adultos, también es un desafío. Una conducta aceptable y esperada parece equivaler a salvaguardar el espacio de los demás en lugar de aumentar la conciencia de las relaciones necesarias que requieren una respuesta más refinada y superior. Hemos perdido nuestro eje en el mundo del “todo se vale” y ya no vemos a los Diez Mandamientos como una guia prác-tica y sabia para una vida efectiva. Vivi-mos en la “isla del relativismo” donde solo una posible sugerencia de “amar y no

dañar” puede ser la única norma que se puede predicar. Si bien Jesús ciertamente enfatizó el amor por encima de cualquier otra cosa, nunca se trató de sentimientos cálidos y confusos o esfuerzos humanitari-os poco entusiastas. El amor del que habló Jesús establece una conexión íntima con Dios, el prójimo, el yo y la creación. Debido a que este amor, que es Dios mis-mo, está en el núcleo fundamental de nuestras vidas, exige acciones y actitudes que sirvan para construir, aumentar y lib-erar esas relaciones. El amor requiere una conducta adecuada. Preservar y mejorar estas relaciones centradas en el amor es la esencia de los Diez Mandamientos (y las Bienaventuranzas) y la razón de la manifestación de ira de Jesús en el tem-plo. Los Diez Mandamientos pueden salvar al mundo de la confusión y el conflicto al inculcar principios morales y principios de las relacionales entre nosotros. También mantienen un sano sentido del pecado en equilibrio y siempre nos recuerdan nues-tra relación con Dios y la libertad que Dios ofrece. Nuestra fe conserva estas joyas de la verdad que a menudo miramos más allá, descartamos por completo o

buscamos quitar de la vista del público. Los seres humanos pueden ser tan arro-gantes a veces. Nuestro viaje de Cuar-esma, especialmente cuando lo empren-demos con sinceridad y determinación, puede restaurar todas nuestras relaciones esenciales. Cuando nos absorbemos en las preocupaciones y demandas de la vida, las cosas se pueden distorsionar rápidamente y podemos encontrarnos muy mal. En resumen, nos encontramos en pecado. La humanidad está perdiendo el sentido tanto de la gracia como del pecado. Necesitamos que ambos com-prendan lo que es real y verdadero. Hasta que lo hagamos, los sistemas opresivos y las ideologías que lastiman a tantos nunca cambiarán. Nunca cambiaremos. Estamos agradecidos por esas almas valientes que voluntariamente abrazan la conversión y el arduo trabajo que exige la Cuaresma y se oponen a los sistemas e ideologías anticuados. Encourage Deeper Understanding of Scripture.

Many prefer a “create as you go” ap-proach to life where laws and protocols primarily exist to secure and protect liberties rather than dictate and outline proper and right behavior. There are no real benchmarks for acceptable ethical and moral behavior, with a “you can’t tell me what to do” attitude prevailing. Parents are even limited in what they can request of their children, and deal-ing with threatening behaviors, especial-ly from adults, are a challenge as well. Acceptable and expected conduct seems to amount to safeguarding each other’s space rather than increasing awareness of necessary relationships that require a more refined and higher response. We have lost our axis to the world of “anything goes” and no longer see the Ten Commandments as practical and wise guideposts to effective living. We live on “relativism island” where only a possible suggestion to “love and do not

harm” may be the only standard able to be preached. While Jesus most certainly emphasized love above anything else, it was never about warm fuzzy feelings or halfhearted humanitarian efforts. The love of which Jesus spoke establishes an intimate connection with God, neighbor, self, and creation. Because this love, who is God Himself, is at the founda-tional core of our lives, it demands ac-tions and attitudes that serve to build up, increase, and free up those relation-ships. Love requires proper conduct. Preserving and enhancing these love centered relationships is at the heart of the Ten Commandments (and the Beati-tudes) and the reason for Jesus’ display of anger in the temple. The Ten Commandments can save the world from turmoil and conflict by instil-ling basic moral and relational principles within us. They also hold a healthy sense of sin in balance and always remind us of our relationship with God and the freedom God offers. Our faith preserves these jewels of truth that we often look beyond, dismiss altogether, or seek to remove from public view. Human be-

ings can be so arrogant at times. Our Lenten journey, especially when em-barked upon with sincerity and resolve, can restore all of our essential relation-ships. When we get absorbed in life’s preoccupations and demands, things can quickly get distorted and we can find ourselves way off track. In short, we find ourselves in sin. Humanity is losing a sense of both grace and sin. We need both to understand what is real and true. Until we do, the oppressive sys-tems and ideologies that hurt so many will never change. We will never change. We are grateful for those courageous souls who willingly embrace the conver-sion and hard work Lent demands and stand against antiquated systems and ideologies. They give us hope that all is not lost. ©LPi
