Reconciliation Service with Bishop Declan took place on Thursday. We were blessed to have six priests available to hear confessions. Thank you to everyone involved in any way in preparing the church and the liturgy. If you were unable to attend but would like to watch the service, it is now available on our website at https://salisburycatholics.org/st-osmunds - click the ‘recordings’ tab. There is also a photo gallery from the event on our website https://salisburycatholics.org/reconciliation-service and a write up which can be found at https://salisburycatholics.org/blog/reconciliation-service or accessed from the ‘Top News’ box.

St Osmund’s School Stations of the Cross The children of St Osmund’s school are creating a Stations of The Cross journey and reflection in their school hall. Previous years have been a huge success and it is a very moving experience to travel the journey of Jesus to the Cross as interpreted by our children. Once again, parishioners and family members are very welcome to attend on Wednesday 3 April between 9-11am and 1.30-4pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to join us in prayer and reflection as part of our joint parish/school preparation for Easter.

March Prayer Intention - our focus for March is ‘Forgiveness and Reconciliation’. This theme has been chosen for Lent as we hope to have a renewed parish focus on the Sacrament of Reconciliation this year. Go to: https://salisburycatholics.org/march

Not been to Confession for years? Feeling anxious about it? Forgotten what to do/say? You’re not alone! This is much more common than you may think and many people haven’t been for decades but maybe it’s time to put this behind you. There is a section on our website to help you - there is a ‘How to’ guide, an explanation of the Sacrament and a number of helpful videos and testimonies. There is also a short and encouraging video on our website that is aimed specifically at children to remind them of what they were taught and what to do. Why not watch it together and come together?

Please continue to pray for everyone who may be nervous about returning to this Sacrament.

If you are one of our wonderful Outreach Volunteers who visits the houses of your neighbouring Catholic parishioners, the lists for your Easter visits are available for collection from the churches this weekend. As before, each pack will contain your list of houses to call upon, the Easter Mass times card and Easter Greetings card for housebound parishioners. A notebook and the notes that you made from your visit at Christmas will also be inside. Please make your visits anytime from now up until 14 April (Palm Sunday).

Parishioners Please offer a warm welcome when the volunteer for your area calls at your home. The purpose of our visits is not simply the delivery of the Easter Mass times card, it is to help to forge friendships and connections between parishioners in a particular area. If you do NOT receive a visit or a card through your door, it may be a sign that you are not registered on the parish database. If this is the case, please contact Caroline 502503 [email protected]

Since we launched our Church TV service last July there has been a continuous ‘live feed’ (live images) from St Osmund’s Church on our website This has meant that, during times when there is no liturgy or prayer happening, all that featured on the screen was an empty church, or possibly the cleaners or sacristans going about their work.

We are delighted to announce that we have upgraded the system so that when there is no Mass/prayer/exposition happening in the church, what you will see on the ‘live feed’ instead are prayerful reflections and other features that may be helpful to you in your faith. We hope that you will view and enjoy them and that they will support you in your prayer life.

How does it work? We have programmed the system so that 5 minutes before a liturgy/prayer is due to begin, the video content on the screen will cut back to the live view of the church, ready for the liturgy to begin. This will happen whether it is Mass, a funeral, Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament or any other prayer/service in the church. A short while after the liturgy has ended, the screen will return to the reflections once more. These will run continuously day and night so that you can join whenever it suits you.

What can I watch? The video content that we have currently playing are reflections on the Gospels for the first three Sundays of Lent and the Stations of the Cross. As you watch/pray with the video, you are able to press ‘pause’ at any moment if you wish to spend a moment in prayer or reflection before continuing. Content will change from time to time as we move through the church year and we will let you know in this newsletter when we add new content.

Need help? If you are unsure how to use the system or how it will work, we are happy to help you. Please contact Caroline 502503 [email protected] or Tony 500653 [email protected]

These intentions are suggested by parishioners and are all shown on our website at https://salisburycatholics.org/monthly-prayer-intentions. Our prayer focus for March is ‘Forgiveness and Reconciliation’ and you will find resources to help you in your prayer on the March page on our website: https://salisburycatholics.org/march. There are now only three months remaining that are not ‘spoken for’. If you have a particular prayer intention that is important to you that you would like to propose, please get in touch. [email protected]

YEAR OF PRAYER: THIRD SUNDAY OF LENT

To be ‘tender of heart’, to be humble is one of the more attractive personality traits we see in people. Humility can best be described as a “generosity of spirit” – a willingness to see our own interests in others – to evaluate our attitudes and see the face of God in each and every one of our neighbours, friends and family members. We know that this is not always easy. When we feel insecure, anxious or envious, it is easier for us to see the negative and to engage in putting others down, to make quick and unkind judgements. But Jesus warns against this way of being. Instead he invites us to embrace an abundance of spirit, a generosity towards other people, that shows the fruit of being a true follower. By living like this we will flourish, we will bear fruit. We will not wither and die but live! In the little parable of the fig tree there is good news. There is time to learn and to grow in humility. The gardener says to the owner – be patient – I will keep tending the tree, feeding it and nurturing it, until it bears fruit. If it doesn’t bear fruit in the next season, then you can cut it down. It seems we have a little time to learn to be tender-hearted.
