All Saints Day Mass Schedule

Friday, November 1 7 a.m. and 6 p.m.

All School Mass in Gym 8:30

Holy Days and Holy People

This week on Friday, November 1 we celebrate one of my favorite Catholic Holy Days, All Saints Day. This feast is a celebration of one of our core Catholic doctrines, the “Communion of Saints.” This is our belief that there is an intimate bond between the saints in heaven and us “potential saints” here on earth. While we rarely think of ourselves as saints, we are united with the Blessed Ones in heaven by our shared baptism and belief in Jesus Christ. This doctrine ex-plains why we also believe that we can and should ‘communicate’ with the saints in heaven and why we ask them to pray for us, as they now share in the beatific vision of God in eternal life

Since this year the November 2 feast of All Souls’ Day falls on Saturday, we will mark it later in the month with a special commemoration including Evening Prayer Vespers for all of our deceased family members and parishioners on November 10. Please join us for this beautiful candlelight service as we remember our loved ones who have died and who will bene-fit from our prayers on their journey into heaven.

We have a beautiful tradition at St. Clare in which we invite all our parishioners to bring framed photographs of deceased loved ones and place them in the two side shrines dedicated to our Blessed Mother and Saint Joseph. The pictures will be displayed throughout November, the traditional month of praying for the dead. You’ll also find a large book near the baptismal font at the entrance to the St. Clare Chapel in which you can write the names of any loved ones who have died in the past twelve months. We will remember them all in Masses during November.

God’s Peace to all you HOLY men and women, Fr. Jim Deiters

All Souls Day Prayer Vigil Sunday, November 10 at 6:30 pm

We extend our prayerful sympathy to the family of Richard Orr, husband of Mary Anne Orr, father of Kathy (Andy) Bridgeman and Richard, Jr. May he rest in the peace of Christ.

WORK OF HUMAN HANDS

November 16/17 After Mass in the Fellowship Hall

Fair trade brings attention to people around the world who work under exploitative conditions and highlights the true costs of goods in global supply chains.

Organizations, businesses, farmers, workers & artisans have worked diligently for more than 50 years to make trade more fair.

Fair trade supports farmers & craftspeople in developing countries who are socially & economically marginalized. These producers often face hurdles in finding markets & customers for their goods.

Our sale features beautiful handmade baskets of various sizes, designs and colors; various gift and clothing items; decorations; jewelry; and food stuffs like chocolate, oil, coffee & tea. In addition to providing a living wage to workers, profits from the sale of some of these items also go to benefit some service outreach ministries. Thank you for buying gifts that benefit both the makers and recipients! Every purchase matters!!

Halloween, All Saints Day and All Souls Day cause us to reflect on the topics of death, how we are called to live our lives as saints and where we will spend eternity.

In this exceptional presentation, The Four Last Things, Fr. Mike Schmitz, one of the leading Catholic speakers in the Church today, tack-les four very difficult topics: Death, Judgement, Heaven and Hell and will give us the answers to the ques-tion: “What Happens When I Die?”

In Contemporary Sainthood, Mark Hart illuminates what is means to seek sanctity in the 21st century. In this dynamic talk, Mark discusses unleashing the power of the Holy Spirit and becoming who we are meant to be—saints, as well as the dangers of putting human expecta-tions on our supreme God. Sure to jump start or add to your spiritual life and shed some light on what it means to be a saint in our time.

Look for these and other great titles on our kiosk in the Gathering Space or stclarechurch.org FORMATION.
