WHEREAS by virtue of Article 46 of the Constitution any provisionof the Constitution may be amended in the manner provided bythat Article:

AND WHEREAS it is proposed to amend Article 12 of the Con-stitution: 10

BE IT THEREFORE ENACTED BY THE OIREACHTAS ASFOLLOWS:

1.—Article 12 of the Constitution is hereby amended as follows:

(a) (i) “agus de réir na hionadaíochta cionúire agus” shall bedeleted in subsection 3° of section 2 of the Irish text, 15

(ii) “and on the system of proportional representation”shall be deleted in subsection 3° of section 2 of theEnglish text,

(b) (i) “cúig bliana” shall be substituted for “seacht mbliana”in subsection 1° of section 3 of the Irish text, 20

(ii) “five” shall be substituted for “seven” in subsection1° of section 3 of the English text,

(c) (i) “ocht mbliana déag” shall be substituted for “cúigbliana tríochad” in subsection 1° of section 4 of theIrish text, 25

(ii) “the age of eighteen years” shall be substituted for“his thirty-fifth year of age” in subsection 1° ofsection 4 of the English text,

(d) (i) “deichniúr” shall be substituted for “fiche duine” insubsection 2°(i) of section 4 of the Irish text, 30

(ii) “ten” shall be substituted for “twenty” in subsection2°(i) of section 4 of the English text,

DE BHRÍ gur cead, de bhua Airteagal 46 den Bhunreacht, aonfhoráil den Bhunreacht a leasú ar an modh a shocraítear leis anAirteagal sin:

AGUS DE BHRÍ go bhfuil beartaithe Airteagal 12 den Bhunreachta leasú:10

ACHTAÍTEAR AG AN OIREACHTAS AR AN ÁBHAR SINMAR A LEANAS:

1.—Leasaítear leis seo mar a leanas Airteagal 12 den Bhunreacht:

(a) (i) scriosfar “agus de réir na hionadaíochta cionúireagus” i bhfo-alt 3° d’alt 2 den téacs Gaeilge,15

(ii) scriosfar “and on the system of proportionalrepresentation” i bhfo-alt 3° d’alt 2 den téacs Sacs-Bhéarla,

(b) (i) cuirfear “cúig bliana” in ionad “seacht mbliana” ibhfo-alt 1° d’alt 3 den téacs Gaeilge,20

(ii) cuirfear “five” in ionad “seven” i bhfo-alt 1° d’alt 3den téacs Sacs-Bhéarla,

(c) (i) cuirfear “ocht mbliana déag” in ionad “cúig blianatríochad” i bhfo-alt 1° d’alt 4 den téacs Gaeilge,

(ii) cuirfear “the age of eighteen years” in ionad “his25thirty-fifth year of age” i bhfo-alt 1° d’alt 4 den téacsSacs-Bhéarla,

(d) (i) cuirfear “deichniúr” in ionad “fiche duine” i bhfo-alt2°(i) d’alt 4 den téacs Gaeilge,

Citation.

(e) (i) after subsection 2°(ii) of section 4 of the Irish text, toinsert the following subsection entitled subsection2°(iii):

“iii. deich míle saoránach ar a laghad agus gachduine faoi leith díobh sin i dteideal, de 5thuras na huaire, vótáil i dtoghchán adhéantar faoin Airteagal seo, agus is armhodh a fhorordófar le dlí a dhéanfar ant-ainmniú sin.”,

(ii) after subsection 2°(ii) of section 4 of the English text, 10to insert the following subsection entitled subsec-tion 2°(iii):

“iii. not less than ten thousand citizens, each ofwhom is entitled for the time being to votein an election held under this Article, such 15nomination to be made in a manner pre-scribed by law.”,

(f) (i) “eile ná aon phost eile a bheith aige atá ar neamhréirle hoifig an Uachtaráin” shall be substituted for“post sochair a bheith aige seachas a oifig Uachta- 20ráin” in subsection 3°(i) of section 6 of the Irish text,

(ii) “or any other position inconsistent with the office ofPresident” shall be substituted for “or position ofemolument” in subsection 3°(i) of section 6 of theEnglish text, 25

(g) (i) “, ar féidir leis an Uachtarán na tagairtí creidimh afhágáil ar lár as,” shall be inserted after the words“an dearbhú seo a leanas” in subsection 8 of theIrish text,

(ii) “from which the President may omit the religious ref- 30erences” shall be inserted after the word “declar-ation” in subsection 8 of the English text.

2.—(1) The amendment of the Constitution effected by this Actshall be called the Thirty-First Amendment of the Constitution.

(2) This Act may be cited as the Thirty-First Amendment of the 35Constitution (The President) Act 2011.

2.—(1) An tAonú Leasú is Tríocha ar an mBunreacht athabharfar ar an leasú a dhéantar ar an mBunreacht leis an Acht seo.

(2) Féadfar an tAcht um an Aonú Leasú is Tríocha ar an35mBunreacht (An tUachtarán), 2011 a ghairm den Acht seo.
