CONSULTATION ON DRAFT EASTER SUNDAY SHOP TRADING POLICY

The Shop Trading Hours Act 1990 (the Act) was amended in 2016 to enable councils to decide whether retailers in their districts can open on Easter Sunday. The Hurunui District Council must have a local Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy to enable shops to open. Previously the Act only allowed shops selling certain types of goods (for example dairies, service stations and garden centres) to open on Easter Sunday.

In accordance with the Act, the council is proposing an Easter Sunday Shop Trading Policy to allow shops to trade on Easter Sunday across the entire district and is seeking your views.

The proposed policy and statement of proposal are available to view at www.hurunui.govt.nz.

Submissions on the policy can be made either:

- By delivery to the council at 66 Carters Road, Amberley;

- By email to: [email protected]; or

- By letter to: PO Box 13, Amberley 7441. Submissions close at 5.00pm, Monday 19 March 2018.
