The following periodicals have been recommended by librarians for use with youngsters of elementary throughhigh school age. Each title is coded to show the professionally compiled list or lists on which it has beencited.

Prepared by Sylvia Hart Wright, M.L.S.Serials Consultant, Franklin Square Agency. Inc.

Copyright 1969 Franklin Square-Mayfair Subscription Agency

Where title changes or mergers of magazines have occurred since those primary lists appeared, titles are givenin their current form, as of Spring 1969, with cross-references supplied from older forms. For those few maga-zines which cannot be ordered through a subscription agency, publishers' addresses are supplied.

Like titles, the prices and frequencies of magazines are subject to change; to the best of our knowledge, theinformation given here is correct as of Spring 1969. The frequency of each periodical is supplied within paren-theses after its title. If it is not a regular weekly, monthly, quarterly or the like, the number of issuesper year is noted. Typically, many magazines issued ten times a year come out monthly during most of the schoolyear but sktp-issues during the period from June through September. Similarly, many classroom magazines andteacher aids only appear during the fall .7.nd spring semesters. During these periods they are likely to appearweekly or monthly.

Unless otherwise indicated, the price given is that which applies to a school or public library buying a singleone-year subscription. Naturally these prices have been set by the magazines involved rather than by the sub-scription agency. It is customary for magazines to set a scale of rates differentiating between subscriptionsof varying lengths ordered by different types of professionals and institutions. Thus it is frequently cl'aaperto get a three-year subscription to a given periodical than to order for one year three times in a row. Aschool or teacher may be eligible for a bargain rate. Similarly, many magazines cut their rates substantiallyfor the customer, individual or institutional, who orders multiple copies. This is particularly true forclassroom magazines.

Although space considerations permit only an abbreviated listing of prices here, the Franklin Square Agencymaintains complex, up-to-date records of the various rates each magazine has set. Without exception we try tofill each order at the lowest applicable rate. We will be happy to supply more detailed rate information onrequest.

Special thanks are due to Lavinia G. Dobler, head librarian, Scholastic Magazines, Inc., and Mrs. Barbara Top-lin, children's librarian, Teaneck (N.J.) Public Library, for their aid in locating basic source materials.
