Orphan Age was born from a curious realisation: Despite being oneof the greatest games of all time, The Sims has no legacy withinthe Hardcore Gaming landscape. Within this category, there arevirtually no games created in the Sims style.

Orphan Age’s gameplay is close to an intimate 4X (albeit withoutthe eXtermination). You’ll have to eXplore the shambles of a city,eXploit its resources and eXpand the Orphanage to gather moreOrphans. But the most important point is the deep micro-managementof the Orphans.

Of all the trials to overcome, sustaining the Mood (the will tosurvive) of your Orphans is the most important. In order tomaintain your Orphans' Mood, you must tend to their Hunger,Loneliness, Tiredness, and Dirtiness, while also maintaining andfurnishing the Orphanage (the Orphan's headquarters)... A low Moodmeans that children can become whimsy or in worse cases, lead torunaways, fights, sabotage, breakdowns, and even death.

This is the point where Orphan Age splits from The Sims. There areno adults, only kids. There is no food delivery, only garbage andcorpses to loot from. There is no furniture catalog, only what canbe made from your own hands with what materials you can scavenge..There is no friendly neighborhood to wander around, only a city atwar. Ultimately, there is no promise of a better life, only theconstant struggle to survive.

Game CoresOrphan Age could be defined as an intimate 4Xwhere Survival replace Extermination. Thegameplay is centered around 4 key concepts.

Empathy: Each Orphan is unique and needsa specific attention. They have their owngoals, traits, skills, whims and interests.In order to maintain your Orphans' Mood,you must tend to their Hunger, Loneliness,Tiredness, and Dirtiness.

Explore: Explore adevastated city, avoiddanger, scavenge resourcesand don't get caught bythe military or theirdrones.

Exploit: There are a few resources and a lotto do. Allocate the resources to build andupgrade equipment, furniture and torespond to the needs of the Orphans.

Expand: The Orphans can fullycustomize the Orphanage:build furnitures, use andupgrade them, clean anddecorate the rooms.

About the teamBlack Flag is a two men cooperative helped by kick-ass freelancers and founded in 2013!

Maxime Solaire is the Lead Developper and handles the development of Orphan Age. Sometimes he leaves his lines of code to create some 3D and silly animations,

Adrien Forestier is the Founder and the creative director of the studio. He has done a bit of everything on Orphan Age: Game / Level / Sound / UI Design in addition of the art direction, 3D, FX and writing.

About Orphan AgeOrphan Age is the reboot and the prequel of a game started in 2009 and unfortunately cancelled in 2011: The Ascent

Adrien was the author of The Ascent and has gained back the rights in 2014, it was the occasion to reboot the project and Orphan Age was born .

Started as a one man project by Adrien, Maxime joins the team late 2015. The two man team will be completed by several freelancers. 95% of Orphans Age is still the work of two.

Orphan Age is currently in pre-production and a private alpha release is showcased during the Gamescom.

A private beta will be opened this toward December. It has been a long journey to bring this game to life!
