Old City Cemetery Museums & Arboretum’s Annual Antique Rose Festival displays rare varieties of roses dating back to the late 1500’s. Take home clippings for yourself, take a Rose Illustration Workshop or enjoy a special Guided Tour of Roses on the beautiful grounds of the oldest municipal cemetery in Virginia still in use today.
Virginia Historic Garden Week:April Each spring select Lynchburg residences open their doors to visitors as part of the Garden Club of Virginia’s eight-day, statewide, Historic Garden Week featuring over 250 of Virginia’s most beautiful gardens, homes and historic landmarks during “America’s Largest Open House.”
D-Day Commemoration at the National D-Day Memorial: June 6Pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice in Normandy and honor those who lived to fight another day. This week long event will commemorate the incredible Allied invasion of Normandy with reverence and respect.

Each October weekend, professional actors tell the stories of the Cemetery’s long buried during this popular Candlelight Tour. Each year brings new stories characters as none are ever repeated.
Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest Wine Festival:NovemberThomas Jefferson is considered the “father of Virginia wine,” for importing wines from Europe and attempting to establish vineyards in Virginia more than 200 years ago. National D-Day Memorial Flames of Memory & Christmas in WartimeDecemberAs twilight deepens and obscures the Blue Ridge, the Memorial will honor the 4,413 men killed on D-Day with thousands of luminaries shining in recognition of Overlord’s fallen and tribute to the ultimate sacrifice each made to relight the lamp of freedom. Luminaries may be purchased in honor or in memory of anyone who has served.
Holiday Candlelight Toursat Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar ForestDecemberTour our third president’s cherished octagonal masterpiece decorated for the holidays as was the fashion during his time. Guided by candlelight, guides illuminate the ways in which the Jefferson family and the enslaved workers spent the holidays, gathered from Mr. Jefferson’s letters and diaries.

Red Hill’s 4th of July Events: July 4 Celebrate Independence Day at the last home and burial place of Virginia’s first governor. Patrick Henry even attends to tell the tales of his life and times!
