THIS MONTH’S silver starDAN DUTCHER
Dan was born in Faribault, Minn. He grew up with one younger sister, Jeanie. He recalls spending time at parks, fishing in the summer and winter months with family and friends. Dan lost his father early in life. His grandfather was a father figure for him keeping him involved in many activities. His summers growing up were spent at his grandparents’ cottage in Deer River. Minn. His grandparents took them many times to Mankato Park and Owatonna Park in Minnesota. Dan’s school days were at Faribault High. After high school Dan attended Mankato State University. He found out that college wasn’t for him, so he enlisted in the Army for three years. This is where he met his true love, Marianne, at a USO dance with a group of friends. When he saw Marianne, he knew in a minute she was perfect. They were married in August 1968. Dan and his wife never had children, but adopted a boy, Cory. Dan was discharged from the service in 1962. He then went back to college at UW Milwaukee and then La Cross university where he earned his degree in physical education. He started working at La Cross Junior High School where he coached wrestling and track. He then went to work at the Post Office and later years at the Paine Art Center in Oshkosh. Dan and his wife loved to travel, Florida being one of their favorite destinations. They also belonged to a square dance club and loved to line dance. Dan volunteered many hours at St. Vincent de Paul and the humane society. He enjoyed walking dogs and cats and caring for the animals. In his spare time Dan enjoys fishing, photography and putting puzzles together. He now lives life at Bella Vista taking part in activities and meeting new people.

KEEP ACTIVE with these activities
• Carry on a daily routine as much as possible.
• Stay connected with family and friends by telephone, writing them a letter or email, or by using social media.
• Keep physically active as much as you can. Take advantage of the limited walks when possible, get up and walk around your apartment, and do simple seated stretches.
• Use this time as an opportunity: Read that book you’ve been wanting to get to, work on your favorite crafting project or hobby, take on a puzzle (Try the ones here in the newsletter!), start a journal, or learn something new.
• Unleash your inner artist with coloring pages or take up drawing or sketching.
• Organize something you’ve put off, such as that pile of papers, a drawer or shelf.
• Listen to your favorite music.
• If it’s possible, use your TV’s streaming service to catch up on some classic movies or one of those popular TV shows everyone’s talking about.
• Use your tablet or computer and research some topics you’ve always been interested in, learn some phrases in a foreign language, watch a YouTube tutorial or TED talk, or just laugh at some animal videos!
• Above all, maintain a positive attitude. You have likely coped with difficult situations before, and be reassured that you will cope with this current situation as well.

EVENT RECAP
spirit week! The Event Recap for the Month of March was our Senior Lifestyle Spirit Week. The week was filled with activities like sporting our crazy socks. It was a challenge to see who could wear the craziest Mad for Plaid outfit. On midweek Wednesday it was a day to participate in wearing your favorite sports team gear and participating in sports trivia. There was even a day to stay in your pajamas and watch a movie matinee with Emilie, our business office manager. To end our Spirit Week, we wore blue jeans and dressed down! All proceeds for this day will go to the Longest Day event that will take place in June! It was an amazing week celebrating Spirit Week at Bella Vista!
THIS MONTH’S heart heroHOSPITALITY, EXCELLENCE, APPRECIATION, RESPECT, TEAMWORK
LORI DEWITS was born and raised in Fond du Lac, Wis. She grew up with four siblings, one sister and three brothers. She recalls that when growing up many weekends were spent with family in Plymouth and Kaukauna. Her brothers were involved in stock car racing and she loved watching them race. Lori and her family spent many weekends at the Blue Line Ice Center, figure skating and playing hockey. Summers were spent at their cabin in Boulder Junction. Her school days were attended at Pier, Theisen and she graduated in 1982 from Goodrich High School. Lori started working at Nazareth Heights in Fond du Lac when she was 15 years old. That was where her true love of working in health started.
Lori has three boys — Kyle, Michael and Ryan. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, walking, playing hockey and watching her sons compete in fishing tournaments. Lori took a trip a few years ago to Hawaii with her significant other, John. It was a trip of her dreams — she truly loved it . She has a love for country music and Luke Bryant and Garth Brooks being her favorites.
Lori started working at Bella Vista in September 2009. She is a nurse manager and RCC trainer. She truly enjoys the residents and their families and is always helping them in any way she can. They all think the world of her!
IT’S OUR PLEASURE TO SERVE YOU … word from your executive directorSPRING!
It is so wonderful to see the birds return to our beloved Menomonee Park and to see the snow and ice melt away, clearing the views of our gorgeous Lake Winnebago. We are so excited to breathe in the fresh air and also to welcome new faces to our Community. We welcome our new residents and our new service option of an in-house nurse practitioner, Donna Hawley, available through Ascension, located in the therapy area on the south side of the Main Lobby. If you were unable to attend the March 18 meeting, please feel free to stop in and say “Hi” on any Tuesday or Thursday. Our clinical team also has information available to share with you. As always, thank you for choosing Bella Vista as your home.
