What is the aim of TRE?
To rid the body of held tension and therefore bringing the body back to a natural balance where all the systems are working in harmony.
The Design
• The human animal is designed to: – Experience – endure – survive and learn (evolve) from
stress/traumatic episodes.
If we did not possess ability the human species would have become extinct shortly after it was born.
Any unconscious effect of one’s thinking due to exposure of other people’s traumatic experiences or stories.
Any intense emotional experience in which one’s emotions are suppressed or unacknowledged.
Any experience that requires changes in one’s normal coping mechanisms.
Any experience that overwhelms one’s normal coping mechanisms.

• Neurogenic tremors are part of instinctual procedural memory in the human animal.
• The body elicits them to complete the process of discharge of the aborted intrinsic movement pattern of flight/defense.
Chemicals
Adrenaline/cortisol or
Opioids
Nervous system activation: Until the brain and body coordinate the signals of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system, indicating the danger is over, the system remains trapped in this feedback loop continually activating the sympathetic nervous system.

Insertion
Origin
The psoas (iliopsoas) located in the front of the transverse processes of the lumbar vertebrae, causes flexion of the spine when it contracts.
• Easily learned – and in many cases it has immediate effects.
• Natural deterrent to additional stressors – allows tension to be released so it diminishes or reduces PTSD symptoms.
• Activates the Relaxation Response of the Para-sympathetic Nervous System
• Integrates into daily routine
• Restores safety and relaxation in the body – thereby promoting a sense of well-being.
• Integrates well with any other therapy or treatment modality
• No negative side effects if performed within the physical limitations of the individual.
