March 22, 2015 Fifth Sunday of Lent
Today we celebrate the third and final scrutiny. Along with Martha and Mary in today’s Gospel, our elect confess Christ Jesus as Lord and pray for new life. Let our prayers join theirs today, that God may open our graves of sinfulness and bring us all to new life. Today’s Gospel is one of the most dramatic in the New Testament. Yet what Jesus does for Lazarus is what God wants to do for each and every one of us. As we listen to these sacred scriptures today, let us reflect on where we have been dead in our own lives, and where we need to be unbound and raised up by God’s redeeming grace.

Hoy celebramos el tercer y último escrutinio. Junto con Marta y María en el Evangelio de hoy, nuestra elección fue confesar a Cristo Jesús como Señor y orar por una vida nueva. Dejemos que nuestras oraciones se unan a las suyas hoy, que Dios pueda abrir nuestras tumbas de pecado y nos traiga a todos a una vida nueva. El Evangelio de hoy es uno de los más dramáticos en el Nuevo Testamento. Sin embargo lo que Jesús hace por Lázaro es lo que Dios quiere hacer por cada uno de nosotros. Al escuchar estas sagradas escrituras hoy, reflexionemos en que hemos estado muertos en nuestras propias vidas y en donde necesitamos ser consolidados y elevados por la gracia redentora de Dios.
