Skipton, Vic, 3361
Skipton Golf Club Inc On Monday 10th June, Skipton Golf Club held their Annual
Queen’s Birthday Golf Tournament with a special event
The Inaugural Col Sharpe Memorial 4 Person Mixed
(any combination )Ambrose Event.
The concept evolved from discussion at the farewell service
for much loved Life Member of Skipton Golf & Bowls Club
Colin Sharpe and gathered momentum with generous
sponsorship and support from a very wide base.
David and Peter Sproules using a variety of established
networks proved just how special long term friendships can
be with the use of technology and golfing networks far and
wide they put on a day that even the gods were told they
weren’t allowed to spoil with rain.
In partnership with Fiona Elsey Cancer Research Institute,
there were a series of novelty ways the players could
contribute to the fundraising event.
A great day had by all, with FECRI PhD students and
scientists among the ‘Tin Shakers’ on the day. It was an
added highlight to have Jason Kelly address the golfers at
the start of the day on the work hat is being done by the
scientists at the laboratories in Ballarat.
Jason and his Dad spent the day on the 7th and 16th on the
Nearest The Pin, with many taking the opportunity to learn a
little more as they moved around the course.
With special thanks to the “Balloon Blower-Uppers” it was
pretty helpful to start off with a couple of “Balloon Blower
Upper Pumps” to get a fantastic show of lovely bright green
and purple all around the clubrooms and the golf course.
Thanks to the Co-opted “Volunteers from the SCN Team”
Not good to name anyone but you know who you are.
Thank you very much.
It’s always pretty easy to get a good crowd to come out to
play at Skipton because the golfers always enjoy the superb
catering of our ladies and the warm hospitality of the
Skipton Golf Club, the Barbecue all morning with Doug and
Peter and Graeme, Frank and Alan at the Bar are so famous.
Well done all. (cont page 21 & 23)

Glenis’s yummy hot soup throughout the day for the
golfers to keep them warm as they passed by the
clubhouse.
Inside the golfers were then treated to an afternoon tea of
nice hot delicacies straight from the heat of the ovens, and
a delicious selection of “country fare”.
Thanks to all who helped to tidy up the course especially
the Richardson Brothers and the others who helped to
prepare the course for the day.
Special thanks Sam, you were truly amazing. Thank you.

WHAT A WONDERFUL EVENT
David had many people to thank especially those who had
made large donations direct to Fiona Elsey Cancer Research
Institute: and to the sponsors of the annual Tournament .
There were still a few surprises for the guests with Liz
Phillips who took a moment to speak about the importance
of Health Awareness and the need to take care of ourselves.
Her message very well received. Thanks Liz.
While tickets for the Spinning Wheel were being sold, there
were quite a number of spins, and Sharon and Ozlem were
kept busy so that Liz could get down to the job of auctioning
off the selection of memorabilia that David had collected for
the occasion.
Not to be out done—the items that seemingly passed in were
later sold. Great job Liz and David.
So much generosity by people donating prizes—Kevin seen
herewith a motorised buggy donated by one of the Ballarat
golfers (a past Skipton Junior Golfer).
There were some very special “Thank You’s” that were
mentioned those being: the Club’s Sponsors for the event:
A & J Gallagaher, Bendigo Bank Beaufort, Mitre 10 Stores
Ballarat, Rohan Quinton Beaufort Butchery; Alistair and all
at Country Grocers Skipton; Field Air Ballarat, John Deere
Cerbus, and all of the many others on the day FECRI.
DEFINITELY WILL BE ON AGAIN NEXT
YEAR. SEE YOU ALL THEN
