November 15, 2016 A multi-ethnic elementary, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School provides an outstanding education to approximately 200 students from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Since 1951, Our Lady of Victory Catholic School has not only provided a quality education to its students, but has helped shape their character, conscience, and Catholic faith. The Alumni Committee is comprised of former students and parents of Our Lady of Victory, who have joined together to assist in providing financial support to help the needs of the school. It is our goal to ensure that the values and knowledge Our Lady of Victory instilled in us and our own children continue for generations to come. Every year we launch Catholic Schools Week with our Annual Crab Feed and Auction. Our ninth crab feed will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church Hall located at 355 E. Champlain Drive on the corner of Champlain and Friant. In anticipation of the 2017 Crab Feed, we are requesting your help through your generous contribution to assist us in making this fundraiser event a success. Celebraremos Las Posadas en el Salón Hayes

comenzando el viernes 16 y terminando el 24

de diciembre. Las posadas serán patrocinadas

por varios groups de nuestra Parroquia.

TODOS SON CORDIALMENTE INVITADOS A

PARTICIPAR

We will celebrate “Las Posadas” in Hayes Hall

from Friday, December 16th to Saturday,

December 24th. Each evening will be

sponsored by various groups from our Parish.

ALL ARE CORDIALLY INVITED TO

PARTICIPATE

WHAT IS “LAS POSADAS”

The word “posadas” means inns or lodging. It is

a tradition which celebrates the story of Joseph and

Mary looking for a place in Bethlehem where Mary

could give birth to Jesus.

For nine days, children representing Joseph and

Mary go from house to house asking for a place to

stay. They are followed by other children carrying

candles, usually dressed as shepherds or angels. At

the end of each posada, children break a piñata and

have a big celebration.

The original piñata is a seven-point star. Each

point represents one of the seven capital sins, which

children are trying “to kill” as they try to break the

piñata.

Necesitamos dulces para las Posadas. Favor de traer dulces pequeños con envoltura para darse como aguinaldos a los niños que participen en las Posadas. Habrá una caja de cartón en el vestíbulo para que los depositen. Muchas gracias. We need candies for the Posadas. Please bring small wrapped candies to be given as “aguinaldos” (bag of goodies) to children who participate in the Posadas. There will be a box in the vestibule to deposit the candies. Thank you very much.
