While the splendor of our nation’s history and spectacular outdoor living is a pleasure anytime during the year; February 14-16, Presidents Day Weekend, holds the opportunity to take in the sights at Steamtown nix the price tag.

Providing complimentary admission to Park grounds, the museum complex and scheduled walking tours; guests can seize an opportunity to soak in the rich history of this popular industrial railroad yard. Other amenities at the site, such as train rides, will be made available for a fee.

With the National Park Service’s centennial celebration one year away; NPS Director Jonathan B. Jarvis comments on the occasion that spans beyond the holiday invitation, “We are inviting all Americans to discover

the beauty and history that lives in our national parks,” he says, calling Entrance Fee Free Days, “An extra incentive to visit one of these places.”

Director Jarvis’ words of wisdom transcend beyond the popular Scranton destination. With the suggestion to enjoy the great outdoors, comes an understood invite to all the exciting events planned across the region, this week and into the future.

Sportsto muster up the courage to jump in feet first in a spot from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. With prospects of pummeling last year’s numbers; organizers encourage potential plungers to rally a group together with an added suggestion to find business or individual sponsors. Prizes will be given to the participants who raise the most money. Focused on fun, costumes are encouraged; whether nestled snuggly along the banks as a spectator or a planned spectacle screeching as momentum builds upon the sight of your destination— a hole cut in ice.

No worries, shoulder high is the limit with Tafton members assisting. There’s also an official Paupack Plunge t-shirt and towel commemorating the brave act awaiting your exit from the water. Other warm ups including live entertainment and refreshments of hot dogs and cocoa will be available for all. So make a date to check out the 4th Annual Paupack Plunge. Flying solo or with friends; it’s sure to be an unforgettable experience in the Pocono Mountains frozen as a memory for years to come!

masterfully scattered throughout Skiview’s exquisite decor, guests find themselves entranced as the ideal catalyst compels a stroll deeper into this Pocono Mountains domicile. Large panes of glass invite an unbound observation into Camelback Mountain Resort’s popular slopes foretelling an outdoor enthusiasts’ destination for snow sport sensations. A clever collaboration of fun elements including decor by famed designer/furniture maker Meg Romero and International artist Andrei Protsouk, seal the ideal vision Skiview Managing Director Greg Boki and Partner Rainer Pires set out to achieve in their latest escape.

E The internationally renowned 5 Star Hoteliers add Skiview Pocono to their international “View” properties portfolio that includes Atlanticview Capetown Boutique Hotel in South Africa and Riverview flats in London England. The stateside project came to fruition after dissatisfaction in the typical rental experience was observed while “quietly settling here” to enjoy time with Greg’s beloved mother. Upon returning to the region, departed since 1977, Greg recalls a sense of bewilderment by changes in the surrounding area. Fond memories of familiar slopes once skied alongside his mother Audrey and father, famed skier, Broadway show choreographer, dancer, Phil Gerrard and sister Michelle Gerrard both World Champion Freestyle Skiers compelled him to carve a niche investing in the area. Phil Gerrard together with Oscar Hammerstein built Hunter Mountain in neighboring New York State back in the sixties. Designing this Northridge at Camelback home for “romantics” and “travelers who appreciate the finer things” Greg and Rainer envisioned the ideal couple’s getaway—a succulent sojourn to enjoy the company of friends. There is a second Skiview to open in 2016. The property has already been acquired. With Camelback and The Crossing Outlets enhancing the destination’s “draw,” it’s the ability to enjoy an evening of cuisine

prep at Skiview they consider most enjoyable. A gourmet kitchen filled with all the amenities including a Panini toaster and espresso machine, affords the ability to craft a variety of delicacies suitable for all tastes. Jovially recommending the site ideal for “Getting crocked after the slopes” he explains many enjoy using the slow cooker before heading out for a day of skiing or snowboarding. Offering rentals as short as two days or as long as ten, afford a multiplicity of schedules the ability to relax and unwind. Accommodating three couples comfortably amidst three King Bedrooms makes “a shared stay” an increasingly trendy suggestion in which both Boki and Pires regard as welcome escape from the typical rental. Being just over an hour from New York City and Philadelphia is a bonus for city residents wanting to get away and be confident there is something special awaiting them.
