Commemorating the founding of Pennsylvania by William Penn, Eckley Miners’ Village Museum will show the WVIA production “Up from the Mines” at this year’s Charter Day set for Sunday, March 8. The 90 minute WVIA piece written and directed by Greg Matkosky, offers a glimpse into the depths of regional coal mining and includes original footage shot right at Eckley!
Considering Charter Day “a very popular program,” Eckley Museum Site Administrator Dr. Bode Morin applauded past years’ programs and attendance with anticipation this year will ignite the same enthusiasm. “Last year we showed rare mining films collected by F. Charles Petrillo to a full house and the year before that we showed the Molly Maguires to another full house,” he stated, adding, “We are pleased to host this free public program in conjunction with WVIA.”

Entertainment
“Come every day and get an entirely different experience”- Mike Bean, President/Mohegan Sun Pocono
hat’s in a name? Ever-evolving since 2006 from
slot gaming into the mega entertainment metropolis of today, Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs has gained stellar status as a top destination hosting one of the widest assortments of options under the sun. Bearing in mind the familiar “rose by any other name” adage, this Wilkes-Barre resort’s reputable standing now translates through a new name—Mohegan Sun Pocono. President Mike Bean notes while the call may sound slightly condensed, the draw intensity is ever-increasing. Reasoning “focus on more than one amenity” led to a look beyond the long standing “at Pocono Downs” brand within the region. He describes the modern view as one place where you can “Come every day and get an entirely different experience” listing a clever blend of categories each complimenting the other. From accommodating an occasional urge to take in a day at
underthesunthe spa, to enjoying a pseudo night on the town visiting different eateries with live performances from the area’s hottest up and coming artists, the vision remains intact— oblige guests with fun time instead of travel time. Bean suggests a mix and match approach “depending upon your mood.” Whether craving a bit of comedic relief or seeking an elegant dining retreat, even the option of joining a live cooking show audience where renowned chefs unmask their culinary creativity, a truly exceptional experience is in store. An evening stroll along an assortment of shops and eateries finds bar Louie®. Considered a “casually cool neighborhood restaurant and bar,” this hotspot satisfies those longing upbeat surroundings with bands dishing out auditory delights every Friday and Saturday night. General Manager, Kassidy Andrus, tells how artists including Londonforce, Flaxy Morgan, Fake uncle Jack and Shake Shake Shake
have developed a following eagerly hitting the scene when favorites are slated to play. Commenting on Mohegan Sun Pocono’s collection of venues and events; he says, “You don’t have to stick to one thing,” explaining each compliments the other. Wisecrackers owner Scott Bruce agrees mechanics of the mutually beneficial relationship translates to guests. A reputation throughout the tri-state area has the comedy club hosting internationally recognized talent the likes of Joe Mulligan, Peter Bails, Patty Rosborough and Mike Finnola. Stage mechanics and spot on voice modulation delivers meticulously timed material he considers crucial to mastering comedic success. A catalyst igniting laughter that peaks the curiosity of guests, often turned ticket holders, in neighboring spots. Labeling the arrangement “A marriage made in heaven” offering a “Nice variety” he applauds grasping the stay and play concept radiating throughout the sights and sounds of Mohegan Sun Pocono sure to excel the mega-metropolis into the future.

hawnee Mountain Ski Area invites one and all to Winter Carnival
Day Sunday, February 22! This “festive carnival atmosphere” now in its 19th year, folds a ton of added amusement into the mountain mecca’s exhilarating mix of snow sport sensations.
The Base Area is the daytime place to be between 11 and 3 for entertainment galore open to all Shawnee Mountain skiers, snowboarders, snow tubers and guests. There’ll be plenty of fabulous feasting in
store with grills ready to serve up some sizzling hotdogs and hamburgers at an outdoor barbeque. Mouthwatering scents of other scrumptious sorts including funnel cake, roasted nuts, crepes and Belgian waffles, tempt with time to relax and enjoy the breathtaking slopeside scenery.
Spectacular carnival sights are certain to capture the attention as Sculpted Ice Works skilled craftsmen demonstrate their dazzling artistry transforming a 300 pound block
of ice into a magnificent ice throne right before your eyes! Seize a “selfie” or simply ask for a hand capturing a photo atop this unique creation.
Bundle up and grab your group or come solo for a day of carnival play at Shawnee Mountain Ski Area. Located at 401 Hollow Road, East Stroudsburg in beautiful Shawnee-on-Delaware. Not far by car under 2 hours outside Philadelphia and 11/2 from New York City.
