Day

Suggested Activity How to complete

Monday 1st June

Year 1

This week we are starting our new topic about ‘pirates’. We are going to be thinking about pirate poetry but performing poetry is also important. Can you read ‘Meet the Pirates’ with an adults help and then perform it with actions?

Watch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RvV23xoZRkI which gives you tips on how to perform a poem well. Can you perform ‘Meet the Pirates’ to your family using the techniques in the video? You can load your video onto our blog to share.

Year 2

Welcome to our new theme of pirates! What do you know about pirates? Read through the pages - A day in the life of a pirate and Pirate skills to get further facts. These pages are from a book called How Pirates Really work by Alan Snow.

Having read through the pages what do you think about pirates? They were very interesting people! Today’s task is to write a letter to a friend sharing your thoughts about pirates or you could even write to a pirate to tell them what you think! The focus of this task is to use different conjunctions in your sentences (and, but, because, so) Try to use all of them.

Tuesday 2nd June

Year 1

The poem that we looked at yesterday rhymes. When words sound the same they rhyme… likes cheese and peas but they don’t have to be spelt the same in anyway. Think about what makes ‘Meet the Pirates’ rhyme.

Complete the rhyme time game here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/cbbc/quizzes/cbbc-hq-rhyme-time then on purple mash write some of your own rhyming words on the template in a pirate theme.

Year 2

Read through the ‘All about pirates’ Powerpoint.

Produce a mind map of everything you have found out about pirates. Don’t forget to include expanded nouns. Your notes today will help you with tomorrow’s task.

Wed’ 3rd June

Year 1

Poem planning day. Can you plan your own pirate poem using a mind map with ideas? Don’t forget your rhyming words, keeping it short and making it fun!

Watch this clip https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zjhhvcw/articles/zg6dng8 and then try the quiz to help you know what to include in a good poem. Then on purple mash mind map your ideas for your own pirate poem!

Year 2

Ahoy there! Look back through the Pirate Powerpoint. Can you find out any more facts about pirates? Launch the Purple Mash app for today and watch the pirate clip.

Today you are going to produce an information page about pirates. Use the template and notes from yesterday to help. Complete Purple Mash ‘All about pirates’ task.

Thursday 4th June

Year 1

Pencil to paper day. Can you create your own pirate poem? Don’t forget to make sure it rhymes.

Create your own pirate rhyming poem based on the poem we have been looking at this week on paper. Remember what needs to be included to make a good poem and use your mind map for ideas. Put a photo of your poem on our blog when you have finished our just let us know it is complete.

Year 2

Look back through the pirate Powerpoint and locate the page helping you to identify your pirate name. You

Pencil to paper day! Use your pirate name to create a new pirate character! What is your pirate like? Draw a picture of your

could share your pirate name on the class blog!

pirate and write a description. Remember to include expanded nouns, conjunctions and commas for lists.

Friday 5th June

Year 1

Can you perform your poem to your family? Don’t forget to make your voice sound exciting and clear. Then time for phonics! Complete the phase 5 activity for a-e, e-e and i-e. Re-cap what you have learnt so far about these sounds.

Perform your poem to an adult and get them to tell you the best bits and what you might need to improve. Complete Purple Mash task on a-e, e-e and i-e. Then play some games on phonics play with these sounds: https://www.phonicsplay.co.uk/Phase5Menu.htm

Year 2

Watch the short video to understand when to use a and an. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B8MbH5Wwf5I
