Community Arts Festival brochureTRANSCRIPT
This very special festival hosted by AISM aims to make connections with young people in Mozambique through the Arts. The pro-
gram normally consists of 10 different workshops, each running for a total of 9 hours over the course of a weekend, with a culmi-
nating performance on the Sunday. With the support of corporate sponsors, experts from all over the world are invited to lead
workshops in various disciplines that may include hip hop dance, salsa, choir, band, visual arts, graffiti, woodworking, clay sculp-
ture, storytelling, physical theatre, traditional dance, drumming … the list goes on!
Students from local community schools are invited to participate
free of charge. Midday meals and snacks are provided by sponsors
or by the PTA. Students from private schools in the area are invit-
ed as fee-paying particpants - each paying student’s entrance fee
sponsors a student from a community school. It is a wonderful op-
portunity to create connections with other students and schools in
our community and to learn from each other.
Thlanganisa, which started 3 years ago and is normally held in
March, has become an annual event at AISM and one that we
hope will continue to grow every year, with participation from
schools in South Africa and Swaziland in the immediate future, and
perhaps from even further afield before long!
