Vehicle rental’s management system

 Introduction

Our project proposal is developed for the Car Rental company . The

main function is to manage and record vehicle information and customer information. System clearly recorded parameters for different vehicle

models and customer personal information . It allow customers, employees

and managers to use it . It provides some very convenient and complete

functions to implement data management and business .

Figure 1

 Background

This company rents cars and trucks to customer . In this case , the

company has a number of offices and locations in the different cities . Each

offices maintains many statements and information .

These information refer to the car types . It include : Economy,

Compact, Midsize, Standard, Full-size, Premium, Luxury, SUV, and Van.

Truck types include 24-foot, 15-foot, 12 foot, Box Trucks and Cargo Vans.

Each type has different features, different daily, weekly and hourly rates,

and different per-kilometer-rates (charged for kilometers driven above the

limit), and different weekly, daily, and hourly insurance coverage.

These information also refer to all their customer. The system will

records the customer details when a customer first rents a vehicle ; such as ,

name ,address , phone number (with area code) . The company also

provides an opportunity for customer to be a club member .If a customer

want to be a club member , he has to pay the annual fee beside their nameand address . When a customer first joins the club, she/he gets 500 points .

After that, a club member gains 1 point for every $5 she/he spends .They can

use points for a one –day rent of vehicles . There are two requirement of

one-day rent of vehicles .

1000 points a premium or lower-ranking car.

1500 points a luxury car, SUV, van or truck.

All of their information are recorded in the system .

One function of the system can offer reservation to customers who

have specific needs . A customer can reserve a vehicle for specific days, can

rent a vehicle, or return the vehicle that she/he has rented. To make a

reservation, a customer provides the location, the type of the vehicle and the

day and time for which she/he would like to pick up and return the vehicle.

If there is a vehicle of the requested type available in that location, the

system shows an estimation of the cost. The customer can then proceed and

make a reservation or cancel it. The confirmation number will be printedwhen customer make a reservation firstly .Then customer want cancel a

reservation , they need to provide either the confirmation number or their

phone number and the dates .

To rent a vehicle, a customer provides the same information as that

required for a reservation. If a customer has already made a reservation,

she/he needs only to provide the confirmation number or their phone

number. The system gets the rest of the information from the reservation

record. The customer needs to decide whether to buy insurance for the car.

Insurance coverage is either for the entire period of the rental, or none of the

days i.e., there is no partial insurance coverage. To complete the rental

agreement, a customer has to provide their driver's license number and credit

card information consisting of the card number and expiry date. Super Rent

accepts only American Express, MasterCard and Visa.

The system will record the date, the time , the odometer reading and

the balance of gas tank , then make charges by applying weekly rates to

whole weeks , daily rate to remaining days and hourly rate to additional

hours. Customers can use credit card or cash to pay their bill.

Super Rent keeps a fleet of fairly new cars. A number of used cars aresold to customers every year , but not include trucks . Each used car is given

an initial asking price of 50% of the original purchase price. A club member can exchange $100 by 2000 club points to buy a used car . The system alsokeeps track of the date the car was added to the used car list, thedate the car was sold, the final sale price, whether club points were used inthe purchase, and the agent who sold the car.

 Statement of Problem

After Test 1 , We found many system vulnerabilities. Although acustomer is usually identified by their phone number, the customers’ number

probably change . So system will maintain a wrong information . If acustomer is identified by Personal ID number , Whatever the customer change name , phone number or address , system won’t make a mistake.

The software also need to manage maintenance for vehicle and manageclerk.

 Process model

The process model to be used is spiral model. The spiral model is anevolutionary software process model that couples the iterative nature of

prototyping with the controlled and systematic aspects of waterfall model.
