Why choose a sixth form college?

Our view is that a sixth form college provides a valuable stepping stone from a school environment to university or employment.

Teachers in a sixth form college specialise in 16-19 education – their main focus is on A-level / BTEC Level 3 qualifications.

The capacity to provide you with the study programme / subject combinations that you’d like, and that meet your needs.

Why choose TRC?

We are a college of around 1500 students offering a broad range of courses to meet individual needs. We offer a choice of 31 different A level subjects as well as a good range of BTEC courses. In addition we have our CACHE Diploma in Childcare, football and rugby sports academies and a range of level 2 BTEC and GCSE courses.

We value each and every one of our students, providing advice and guidance along their learning journey, to help achieve excellent outcomes and a learning experience that equips our students for their lifelong learning.

“ Teachers know their students very well and provide high levels of individual support.” (Ofsted Inspection January 2014)

How am I doing? Monitoring performance

• We closely monitor the performance of all students to ensure that each student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

This includes:

How is my son/daughter

doing?

• Attendance data• Performance in class (e.g. contribution to the lesson)• Folder organisation and presentation• Homework • Progress assessments• Ability to work well independently and with others

“Exemplary tracking and monitoring of students’ progress, with timely interventions, ensure that students progress well.” (Ofsted Inspection January 2014)

How am I doing?

Our students have frequent meetings with their progress tutor and receive regular feedback from their subject teachers (written and verbal)

Progress discussions help to identify areas for improvement and put any necessary support in place.

Communication with parents

• Establishing a strong partnership with parents is important to us at TRC

• Formal progress reports to parents are made three times a year (November, February and April)

• Two parents’ evenings are held each year. The first in November (open to all) and a second in April 2016 (targeted appointments)

• For each subject our report highlights progress against a target grade.
