First Day Term 4

Dear Parents,

Camp

Last week saw 33 of our 49 students attend camp to the Outdoor Environmental Education Centre of

Columboola, 15km east of Miles.

Students engaged in many activities including: spear and boomerang throwing, orienteering, low and

high ropes course, astronomy walk and discovery, damper making, hut building, indigenous games,

water ecology and yabbying.

All students and adults who attended had a great time and only three of us got ticks! Students have said

that yabbying and hunting for ‘Blue-Tooth’ was one of the highlights.

It is fantastic to provide the opportunity for our students to engage in activities that they would other-

wise not be able to do. This camp was totally free of charge for families due to the outstanding support

of our local community members. P&C representatives gave up their time to sell raffle tickets at the

Mulgowie Hotel, but without our community to support the purchase of those tickets, there would be

no free camp.

As a way of saying thank you to our local community, the P&C are organising a date and preferred

time with the Mulgowie Hotel for us to provide some platters of biscuits and cheese etc for our locals.

This is a small token on our families part to give back to the people who put their hand in their pocket

(sometimes every week) to make it so all of our children could attend camp at nil cost. We are asking

for families to send into school something ‘platter’ appropriate before the end of term, so that the P&C

can get the platters to the hotel over the holidays (please see the information in the P&C information).

Thank you in advance for your support to this gesture to thank our community.

No Hat, No Play

As head lice have been lingering in our school, I have removed all ‘spare hats’ for student use. This is

to help prevent the spread of head lice.

As such, if your child does not come to school with their own hat (every child was provided a hat free

of charge by our P&C upon enrolment), they will be instructed to sit out of play. Students don’t enjoy

missing their play time, so please assist your child to be ready for school by ensuring their hats are in

their bags. No sharing of hats will be allowed. We hope you understand this precaution and thank you

for helping your child be prepared for school.

Ball Games

Ball Games Carnival is next Friday on our school oval. We love to see as many parents as we can dur-

ing this time and would thoroughly enjoy winning the parent/staff game of file gap pass this year!

So please mark your calendar and try and come along to support the students in a day of fun. Games

commence at approximately 10am, but parent helpers would be appreciated from 8:30am to support

the P&C with getting tuckshop for all four schools organised.

Hope to see you then.

Last Day of Term

Friday 15th September is the last day of term and two weeks from tomorrow. Children in grades 3, 4, 5

& 6 are invited to participate in the Annual Speed Soccer / Netball Carnival to be held at Laidley Rec-

reation Grounds.

Students are placed in teams to compete against other local schools for a championship trophy and

prizes.

It is a day of energy, fun and sun – so please be sure to have your child prepared for the day with their

own hat, sunscreen, water bottle and lunch (tuckshops will be operating with no ordering required).

A permission note will come out early next week.

Until next fortnight,

Senior Classroom News

Hello Parents and Families.

Last week most students were at camp with just a few students here at school. We were busy working and hav-ing fun with students from Prep to Year 6 all in together.

There were opportunities to share news, learn technology skills as well as working on maths, English Geography and art activities.

It was lovely to see how the children of all ages worked and played together in the classroom and in the play-ground. We welcomed our campers back on Friday.

This week we will be working towards wrapping up our digital technology unit where the students have been

creating there own games on computer! Very clever .

Have a great week ahead,

Ms Kemp

Mrs O’Sullivan’s Class

Welcome to Prep / Year 1 news

Book week was amazing and we all had so much fun in our

Book week parade. Here are some snap shots of the day.

We all worked hard at

school while the other

students were at camp. The good workers were rewarded with

lots of prizes and technology time and, of course, time in the

corner building and doing puzzles.

What are we learning?

In English students are still enjoying learning about rhyme and poetry and we are reading lots

of books with rhyme in the stories. In handwriting we are learning upper and lower case letters

and learning a poem with each letter.

In Jolly Phonics we are still concentrating on read-

ing and using our sounds to read simple words. We

are learning all about the vowels and singing the

long and short vowels. We have commenced the

STARS program for reading. Students are still do-

ing well with their daily journal writing!

In Mathematics, students are learning about the numbers from 11 to 20. We are also learning

ordinal numbers, simple sharing, subtraction and addition of numbers. Students are revising

shapes, chance and data and measurement.

In Science, we are learning about the seasons and how the seasons affect both plants and ani-

mals.

In Geography we have looked at our school as an important place. This week we are looking af-

ter our special place, the Prep corner, and we will organise and label each area with new words.

In Media arts this week we will be choosing an animal and using Google to find out about the

animal. We will use a photo of the animal and apply an App called Chatter kid to make the animal

talk. In Digital technology students are learning the capital letters on a keyboard.

Thank you so much for all your support.

Warm regards

Sandy O’Sullivan

Middle Classroom News (Year 2, 3 & 4)

Hello again from the Ninja Class.

First things first… Camp. Was. Amazing! The kids all had an absolute blast,

learnt some fabulous bush (and life) skills and came together as a phenomenal

support network for each other (and some of us adults).

As this term races towards it’s end (yes, already – only 2 weeks left!), our units of

work are coming to a close in the Ninja Classroom. In Media Arts the students

are currently working on a promo they are filming for the Ninja Class while

prepping themselves for their very own filmed advert. Our Digital Technology

and Data unit is culminating in individual PowerPoint presentations outlining the

benefits and uses of various charts and graphs. The Geography unit is almost

complete, with the last few weeks consisting of Atlas Challenges to test their un-

derstanding of place, use of the atlas and even their group work skills.

In English we’re right in the middle of a poetry unit – so if you child starts wax-

ing lyrical at the dinner table, or describing your cooking with similes (rich as

chocolate) and metaphors (this dinner is heaven) then we have a win!

While at the shops, or even at home, if you have to opportunity to explore money

and change please do. We’ve been doing money this term and have just reached

change and money problems so any extra opportunities to explore this would

be fabulous!

As always, please don’t hesitate to drop in, message me via Dojo or even email

me if you’d like to chat about your child or where they are at!

Until next fortnight!

NEWS: LIBRARY, OFFICE & P&C

Library News

Book Club

Issue 6 has been ordered today. Thank you to everyone who has supported this scheme. We have

over $100 worth of books in rewards to receive this month for our library. Issue 7 will be out after

the school holidays.

Book Reviews

Reuben recommended “Tom Gates” as his pick of the week. He said they are great books if you are

not a strong reader and have lots of crazy adventures to read about.

Chad reckons “How to Train Your Dragon” books are the best. A boy goes on adventures. Hiccup

Horrendous Haddock 3 is a dragon that failed his dragon test and was banned from the trip. Chad

finds the books to be humorous and interesting.

Kael likes “Horribly Famous” books. The books are based on real people and the story of their lives

in a entertaining way. Most of the stories are from the BC era.

Phoebe enjoyed reading “Kiss the Cow”. A girl in the story tried to milk the cow but it wouldn't give

her any milk. Apparently, no kiss, no milk! This story made Phoebe feel very happy.

Caitlin likes to read the “Ella Diary” series. Caitlin thinks they are entertaining and just wants to

Monnie loves the “Pearlie” books. Pearlie went to France and met another fairy who had a pretty

house and designed things. These books make Monnie feel very happy.

Keep up the great reading kids!

We would like to show our appreciation to the community for providing the opportunity to our stu-

dents to attend camp at no cost. We are arranging to say thank you to our community via cheese and

biscuit platters at the Mulgowie Hotel during the holidays (time and date to be confirmed by the

Mulgowie Hotel). We would appreciate any donations that will be suitable for cheese and biscuit

platters to be brought into the school before the end of term. Thank you for showing your support

back to the community.

Thank you
