TWO-Academic Background Knowledge• Vocabulary is a beginning step followed by
simple concepts (basic objectives & learning goals), and then complex (application, extension of topic)
• The purpose is to enhance student academic background knowledge through direct instruction in specific academic terms
• A recommended that 30 terms are identified for each grade level, for each subject area
• Common approach to instruction, Six-Step Process district wide
THREE-Ensure Effective Teaching• Formative assessments-Long Term Goals• NOW- Use of proven instructional strategies• Teachers compare effectiveness of strategies
and student progress for specific learning goals
• Student learning is progressing, data of success (pre/post test)-Assessments
• No variation in teacher expectations about student learning
• Student engagement and rigor
