Wouldn’t it be nice if you couldlook inside your electrical systemand see what’s going on?Troubleshooting would be somuch easier if you could see thevolts, amps and harmonic contentin real time and take pictures todocument and analyze. Now youcan do just that and more withAEMC’s PowerPad. The full colorgraphical display lets you see andanalyze each signal clearly. Itshigh speed sample rate, at 256samples per cycle, providesexcellent fidelity in reproducingwaveforms and capturingtransients that happen as fast as62.5µs.

PowerPad’s 4MB of memory isconveniently partitioned to let youstore four different types of data,synchronized or independent ofeach other. You can store up to12 screen snapshots, up to50 captured transients that containfour cycles for each active input,and 4096 alarm events. You canalso record trend data for days,weeks or even months.

Six direct access function buttonsquickly let you see:

Waveforms – Display Volts,Amps, THD and Crest Factor byphase or for all phases. You candisplay all the voltage inputs onone screen, phase-to-phase orphase-to-neutral. Real-time phasor

diagrams can be displayed forvolts and amps, also by phase orfor all phases.

Harmonics – Display Harmonicsout to the 50th for Volts, Amps andVA. Individual Harmonics aredisplayed as a percentage and inreal value. Harmonic direction andsequencing can also be displayed.

Transients – Set, capture anddisplay transients. You select thethreshold and the number oftransients to capture. PowerPadthen captures four waveforms foreach transient; the triggeringwaveform as well as one pre- andtwo post-triggered waveforms. Asmany as 1200 waveforms can becaptured.

Alarms – Configure, capture anddisplay up to 4096 alarm eventsbased on up to ten different triggervariables. Each captured alarmevent will show the phase, thevariable and the value as well asthe time and duration.

Record – Set up and record trenddata at selectable rates from onesample/second to one sampleevery 15 minutes on as many as22 different variables for allphases. See the recorded data onscreen, zoom in and out and scrollthe time axis to analyze the data.

Power & Energy – DisplayWatts, VARs and VA by phaseand total. Accumulate totals andsee whether the energy isinductive or capacitive.

Functional Displays

Display transients that were captured –each transient consisting of one pre-trig-gered cycle, the triggered cycle and twopost-triggered cycles. All inputs are storedwhen a transient is captured. Up to 50transients can be stored, each consistingof four cycles and up to six inputs for atotal of 1200 transient waveforms.

Voltage, current and power harmonics can be displayed in real time, in bargraph and text form, and stored in memory. Individualharmonics can be analyzed by moving the horizontal cursor to that harmonic. Harmonic direction (source-to-load or load-to-source) canbe displayed for power harmonics. Harmonic sequencing (negative, zero and positive) can be displayed for volts or amps for all phases.

Information on screen (real-time or storeddata) can be sent to a printer using theserial interface by simply pressing the printbutton.

You can store up to 12 screen snapshotssimply by pressing the camera button whilethe desired information from any of theinstrument’s modes is on the display. Anyof the stored snapshots can be selectedand displayed by selecting it from the list.

PrintingSnapshot Mode

Configuration is simple and straightforward. Simply press the setup button and select thefunction you wish to configure. For example, to configure the input, select the desiredhookup from the graphical choices for single-, two- and three-phase. Neutral current iscalculated in the 4-wire hookup.

ConfigurationPowerPad’s direct accesssystem lets you see theimportant information youneed at the press of a button.Quickly review waveforms,harmonics, transients, alarmsand recorded data on screen.Setup is straightforward usinga combination of graphic andtext prompts to quicklyconfigure PowerPad forthe job site.

Functional Displays

Power and Energy can be displayed byphase or total, including kW, Watt-hours,VAR hours, VA and VA hours. The energycan be totalized and the inductive andcapacitive components are also displayed.

Trend recording from one to 22 variables and from one to six inputs can be programmed, stored and displayed at storage rates betweenone second and 15 minutes. Data can be analyzed on screen by moving the horizontal cursor to see MIN, MAX and instantaneousvalues as well as time and date. The time axis can be zoomed in or out. Power and energy consumption can also be recorded anddisplayed.

Real-time waveforms can be displayed for any and all inputs. In RMS, THD and CrestFactor presentations, Phasor Diagrams can be displayed graphically, showing the phaserelationship as well as actual values for phase-to-phase voltage and current. Percentunbalance is also displayed.

Construction

The color-coded input connectors provide dedicated current probe inputs and voltage inputs.
