The Nairobi Academy @nairobiacademy
My name is Joan Doroba Gina Mumbi, I enjoy sports like football, netball, athletics and rounders
and when I came to Nairobi Academy it offered all those sports. I joined the school in year 10
and I have been here for the past two years. While here, I did my final O’LEVEL examinations, I
didn't do very well as I had hoped but that was not the end of my academics. In Sept 2016, I
joined the BTEC course in Business Enterprise and Entrepreneurship which has offered me an op-
portunity to prepare for university. I joined the BTEC programme because I expect to learn more
on how to be an innovative entrepreneur, I also intend to learn how to be a self-employed per-
son and an innovative thinker. It has always been my dream to start-up my own fashion and
design business and ultimately employ people and this BTEC programme has seemed to be the
right place for me to be equipped with knowledge and competence on how to do it.
Nairobi Academy a training ground for me. It is a place where I formed new colleagues and
came in contact with students of different temperaments, form new ideas and habitats. My first
day of school was scary. I never knew anyone and I was too nervous to speak. After the first peri-
od, however, a girl approached me, smiled and said, ‘hi’. She showed me around. Coincidentally
we had the same classes and over time we eventually became best of friends. The school atmos-
phere was warmer than I expected. Everyone was kind and accepting and the teachers made
sure I settled in well. In a way, I became more confident because I was at ease with my peers. The
various extra curricular activities the school offers also contributed to my overall fitness
and happiness. In the end, I can say that I am happy to be in Nairobi Academy.
Three students got a scholarship from
the Goethe Institut to do the Fit 1 Ger-
man exam. These were Lisa Maket,
Kimuchu Kibue and Stanley Ndezwa in
Year 10. They had to attend prepara-
tion classes sometimes early in the
morning or late after school. Their hard
work has finally paid off. They sat for the
exam 3 weeks ago with students from
other schools and all succeeded in get-
ting the top grades. Lisa Maket and
Kimuchu Kibue got a 'GUT' and Stanley
Ndezwa got the best grade 'SEHR GUT'.
They also received a few goodies from
the institute. Congratulations to the trio.
We hope that more students will take
part in the Fit 1 and Fit 2 exams next
term.
Headteacher’s Remarks This was a light week for us where we celebrated a number of students for accomplishments in different areas. I wish to
encourage you to keep partnering with the school and the teachers in attaining the best possible outcomes for your
child. Booster lessons are ongoing and we encourage your child to take advantage of these sessions. Have a great
weekend ahead. John Karanja
Our valiant swimmers participated in
the NASA sprints and relays gala. We
had a combined team from both Pre-
paratory and Secondary schools. The
Team of Owen, Stanley, Adil, Moses,
Sherly, Amani (secondary) and Baraka,
Malaika, Mikaela, Tatiana, Reese, Lola
did us proud by becoming 4th overall.
Most registered improved times. Moses,
Amani, and Stanley attained intermedi-
ate times (AA) and could easily make it
to NASA Teams in the near future to rep-
resent us internationally. Moses, Amani,
Stanley, Lola, Tatiana, Malaika and
Reese received reward vouchers from
the gala sponsor for their exploits. As a
Coach, I'm very proud of them as so too
should the Nairobi Academy fraternity.
We honour them as they brought hon-
our to us. Kudos! Paul Angar
Next week we have Interschool athletics at Kasarani and the
team will leave school at 7.00 am to be back at 3.00pm. On
card also is the KAIISO Under 13 tournament that will be hosted
by Nairobi Academy and we are scheduled to start the match-
es at 9.00 am and finish by 12.30 pm. T. Mulli

Kesho Amahoro Honestly, I could not be more excited about the school
production this year. The songs are extremely catchy
and full of emotion. The hard work and effort put into this
production by every student is commendable. I know
there will be good music and it is bound to be fantastic.
So many pleasant vibes. Each year, the plays have
been amazing and this year it will be spectacular. Hope-
fully, the turn out will be more than expected. On each
of the days, I hope the
audience will enjoy the
production as much as I
enjoy being a member of
the cast. Tickets are on
sale at KSh 1000 for adults
and at KSh 500 for chil-
dren.
Denmark Exchange Program Our School entered into an agreement with Grenaa in
Denmark for an exchange programme in 2011 to devel-
op an inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young peo-
ple to help create a better and more peaceful world
through intercultural understanding and respect. This
partnership encourages students to become active,
compassionate and lifelong learners who understand
that other people, with their differences, can also be
right. The vision is to further improve the quality of our ed-
ucation at both Schools by learning from each other. Stu-
dents from both schools showcase projects from various
subjects to improve standards. In April this year, a group
of 16 students and two teachers went to Denmark with
science and Music projects which fulfilled one of our ob-
jectives with a lot of praise and admiration from the entire
Grenaa fraternity. Next year from January 28th to the 5th
of February 2017, will be our turn to receive our guests
from Denmark. This time we shall
have a total of 10 girls who have
not been to Kenya before. To this
end we are grateful to our parents
for allowing their daughters to host
our exchange students as listed out
on the next page. Thank you.
