The is a Indian Association of Gastrointestinal Endosurgeons (IAGES) growing and dynamic organization of nearly 7000 members with the vision of promoting and spreading the art and science of laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery throughout India and abroad.

Friendship, Fellowship and knowledge sharing are the key strengths of IAGES. We always strive to provide effective training to the needy surgeons in the art of Minimal Access Surgery.

Fellowship certification course (FIAGES) was started by IAGES in 2007 towards this noble mission.

This 3 Days FIAGES course essentially comprises of didactic lectures encompassing wide range of basic minimal access surgery topics, live laparoscopic and endoscopic demonstration, Knotting & Suturing training in the laparoscopic trainers and finally the assessment of the candidates.

Following successful completion of the course, the candidates will be eligible to receive the much coveted FIAGES certificate at the convocation function during the next IAGES Annual conference.

Please note that IAGES membership is mandatory prior to taking up the FIAGES certification course. But Postgraduates and surgeons could still attend all 3 days without the need for taking up the FIAGES certification to update their laparoscopic knowledge.

Separate concessional fee structure is given for this category. You could also choose to attend live workshop alone on Day 3.

IAGES Fellowship Courseth st

IAGES will conduct a 3 day fellowship course in Laparoscopy from 30 , 31 st

March & 1 April 2018 at Lotus Hospital, Erode. The course will be balanced mix of didactic lectures by eminent faculty with ample time for discussion, video presentations, open house sessions, symposia and direct informal interactions of groups with eminent faculty (meet the professor). Participants will get ample time on endo trainer under close guidance and supervision of faculty to improve their hand eye co-ordination by structured exercise. Besides the allotted time, there will be liberal availability of endo trainer at other times. The objective of the course are to impart / update theoretical knowledge by close interaction and improving hand eye co-ordination. There will be many unique feature in the course to make it more useful, convenient and memorable for you.Live workshop of Laparoscopic Surgery

st On the third day ie 1 April 2018 a live operative workshop will be held at Lotus Hospital, Erode. Commonly practiced basic and advanced laparoscopic procedures will be shown by eminent faculty who are masters in their field with emphasis on the correct Techniques. The workshop shall be an open house interactive session with delegates as the central point. Lap appendix, Lap Chole, TEP,TAPP and Lap fundoplication are few common procedures to be shown.Meet the professors session It gives a good opportunity to young surgeons to ask questions freely and get more time for discussion about individual difficulties / teething problems during their early experience. The topics include common basic and advances procedures. Endotrainer sessions Trainees will get ample opportunity to practice knotting and suturing in the lap trainer under the direct supervision of faculty on day 1 and day 2. Final practical assessment of suturing skill will be on day 3.These sessions are essential to improve the important skill of endosuturing. Assessment for certification At the end of the course the candidates will be assessed for the certification. The method of assessment will depend on whether the candidates is in examination or non examination category.Eligibility for FIAGES course IAGES membership is mandatory. Non exam category To recognize the contribution in the field of minimal access surgery the association also awards the fellowship to established and senior laparoscopic surgeons without examination. For the non examination category, minimum of ten years of experience in practice of laparoscopic surgery is required after post graduation. They are expected to have performed over 250 laparoscopic procedures. Submission of some evidence or undertaking is required to substantiate their claim of having vast experience in the field of minimal access surgery. The candidates registered in this category are required to attend all the

st nd rdlectures on 1 and 2 day and live work shop on 3 day. A maximum of 80 candidates will be registered for the fellowship course in this category. Exam category For Examination category, the candidates are required to have minimum of two years of experience in Laparoscopic surgery after post graduation in surgery. They are expected to have performed over 25 Laparoscopic procedures independently or jointly. They must attend proceedings of all the 3 days including endo trainer session and meet the professor session. On the 3rd day they will appear for the examination. A maximum of 100 candidates will be registered for the course. The endo trainer sessions are very important part of the fellowship course. The session will be for 90 minutes and will be supervised by a faculty member in batches of 6 to 8 candidates so that there can be a close interaction. During the session they will be trained on performance of specified tasks and specific exercises including endo knotting and suturing. On the last day the evaluation will be on the same exercises.Written exam There will be MCQ type questions for 100 marks. Candidates are required to obtain minimum of 50 marks to pass. The candidates is expected to know all important facts.Practical exam 1. The skill assessment on endo trainer is based on performing simple to advanced exercises for approximately 10 minutes for each candidate. Maximum of 50 marks are allotted on endo trainer assessment. Five faculty members are deputed as examiners. Each candidate is examined by one examiner only. 2. Interview / assessment for approximately 10 minutes for each candidate. The candidates are divided into batches and are interviewed by two or more senior faculty members of IAGES depending upon the number of candidates. Maximum of 50 marks are allotted for the interview. Total marks for practical examinations are 100 (Endotrainer assessment: 50 marks and Interview: 50


marks) A minimum of 50 marks are required to pass separately in practical examination .

Fellowship award All fellowship certificates will be given only in person to the successful candidates in a convocation ceremony during the national conference of IAGES. A nominal convocation fee will be charged for the convocation.

Live operative workshop at conference venue will start at 8.00 am sharp and st

will end at 2.00 pm. on 1 April 2018.Attendance is compulsory for all FIAGES course participants on all days. Participants are requested to sign in and sign out four times a day which is mandatory and stay in the hall till the proceedings are over and sign out at the end.

For every in and out new register will be maintained. The marks will be included for the attendance as well.
