Geyer of Gardena who asked tp be kept on a list of active teachers altho he Is now serving his second term as 17th district congressman. With the exception of Mrs. Fay Alien, who wanted the board to rescind its previous action which ended Geyer's affiliation, as a teacher in the Gardena high school, members stuck to their former decision that according to school rules no teachers ex cept those in military service consecutive semesters. Geyer's case was appealed to the board by State Senator Rob- ert Kenney, who likened all gov- ernment service to military ser- vice and suggested the board grant leaves to officeholders un til "six months after he is dc feated for reelection." Two teacher organizations sup- ported Keimey's proposal. Mrs Alien's call for a new vote, how- ever was ruled out on the grounds no one who supports a losing motion can again -bring the matter to vote. Board Rejects New Geyer Plea

For the third time the Lo Angnles board of education las' Thursday night refused to glv special consideration .to Rep. Lee B. Geyer of Gardena who asked tp be kept on a list of active teachers altho he Is now serving his second term as 17th district congressman.

With the exception of Mrs. Fay Alien, who wanted the board to rescind its previous action which ended Geyer's affiliation, as a teacher in the Gardena high school, members stuck to their former decision that according to school rules no teachers ex cept those in military service

consecutive semesters. Geyer's case was appealed to

the board by State Senator Rob­ ert Kenney, who likened all gov­ ernment service to military ser­ vice and suggested the board grant leaves to officeholders un til "six months after he is dc feated for reelection."

Two teacher organizations sup­ ported Keimey's proposal. Mrs Alien's call for a new vote, how­ ever was ruled out on the grounds no one who supports a losing motion can again -bring the matter to vote. She support­ ed Geyer's two previous requests for extended leave.

H.C. School Will Benefit From Ham Dinner Event May 1

The Citizens Committee will ilve a ham dinner at Narbonne Thursday, May 1, at 6 p. m. for the Harbor City school fund for a sound moving picture machine.

Mrs. Frank Atkinson has charge of the ticket sale, dinners being 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children. Richard Scdcri is chairman and will be assisted by Mesdames Andrew Maftright, Leo Suiter, W. F. Huppkc, W. E. Dana and Frank Atkinson.

Mrs. Sutcliffe will have charge of the musical prograhi, the Lit­ tle Symphony orchestra playing during the dinner and assisting with the program.

Harbor City School to Observe May Day

Harbor City school will ob­ serve May Day and public school week jointly on May 2, according to Mrs. Jcannie D. Murphy, principal. . There will be open house from 9 a. m. to 3 p. m., a Boys' Playday from 10 a. m. to 12 noon, then a luncheon for parents from 12 to 1 p. m.

From 1 to 3 p. m. the children will have a May Day Festival and the Harbor City Citizens Committee Is giving a -dinner at 6 p. m. for the purpose of rais­ ing funds for a sound picture machine. The dinner will be held at Narbonne but the rest of the program at the Harbor City school.

Miss Elizabeth Wilson Is a new teacher, appointed to the Al and B2 grades. The school has gained 40 pupils, increasing from an enrollment of 283 to 328.
