Day 1: Board your deluxe motorcoach and begin traveling north. Mid morning we will tour the Marshall M. Fredericks Sculpture Museum and view an extraordinary collection of the Detroit based sculptor known for his inspiring public memorials, fountains, and whimsical animal sculptures. Enjoy lunch at the Willow Tree Restaurant, the “Jewel of the North,” and then shop for hand-dipped chocolates and chocolate covered potato chips at Sherni’s Candies. Continue our journey to Hillman, MI, arriving at Thunder Bay Resort, our home for the next two nights. After check-in we’ll enjoy a buffet dinner at the resort’s Clubhouse Grill and then spend your evening stargazing the dark northern sky while enjoying S’mores around the bonfire. (L, D)

Day 2: Enjoy breakfast at the Clubhouse Grill and then depart for Alpena and our day of touring. Take a self-guided tour at the Great Lakes Maritime Heritage Center, built by NOAA to

complement the Thunder Bay National Underwater Shipwreck Preserve. Explore the center and learn how underwater archaeologists work to preserve historic shipwrecks. Then board the “Lady Michigan” and explore the actual shipwrecks located along the shoreline in the

Thunder Bay Sanctuary from this glass bottom boat. Box lunches will be provided upon our return to the dock, and this afternoon we visit the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, one of the oldest surviving lighthouses on the Great Lakes, built in 1840. Then continue on to the New Presque Isle Lighthouse, built in 1871. Enjoy the sight of the freighters going by as we visit the lighthouses.

Arrive back at Thunder Bay Resort with time to freshen up before our evening event. Be prepared to enjoy Northern Michigan heaven as we board horse-drawn carriages for a ride through the woods, across the Thunder Bay River and into the Elk Preserve. See the majestic Rocky Mountain Elk and Whitetails before continuing on to the Elk Antler Log Cabin for a gourmet 5-course dinner prepared before you on antique

wood cookstoves. After dinner board your carriage and return to the resort for a good night’s rest. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Following breakfast, we check out of the resort and travel to Oscoda County, Michigan’s largest community of Amish and Mennonites. Stop at the Pioneer General Store, known by the locals as “The Amish Mall.” And we won’t leave the area without stopping at the Bulk Food Store and The Bakery to pick up some of their renowned Amish baked goods. Lunch is on your own at the Lumber Jack Food & Spirits, and then we make a stop at Williams Cheese Company Factory Outlet. Continue our journey home, taking with us fond memories of our Thunder Bay Resort and Shipwreck Exploration tour.
