ANOTHER COUNCILLOR NEEDED Due to work commitments, a current School Council member has had to resign from School Council. This means we have a vacancy in the parent member category. If you would like to be on School Council, please see me ASAP. We are desperately seeking assistance. Parents Association – FUNDRAISING EVENTS As you might be aware, we were unable to fill committee roles for the Parents Association this year. However, I would like to thank Deb Woods who volunteered to organise the Easter Raffle. We are asking each family to donate to the hampers. Suitable donations include chocolate Easter eggs, Easter themed sweets, Easter books, Easter crafts or stickers, new Easter soft toys and baskets/pretty boxes to make up the hampers. Please check donated items are within the used by date. Donated items can be left in the big box outside the Office or labelled ‘Easter Raffle’ and placed in the class tub. Raffle tickets will be sent home shortly. We still need someone to organise the much loved Movie Night. The coordinator will need to establish a small group of people to purchase decorations and food items, organise the movies, count money and rallying volunteers to assist with cooking and supervision. UPCOMING DATES TO REMEMBER

CURRICULUM DAY - Our third Curriculum Day will be held on Monday May 7. Professional learning will be undertaken on the 6 +1 Writing Traits. Please not that OSHC will be provided as long as there is enough interest.

Curriculum Our Teaching and Learning Framework, REACH is an evidence based approach and implemented in all our classrooms. Teachers structure their literacy sessions around this framework and this assists us to best meet the learning needs of our students. The ‘revisit’ phase aims to review learning and rehearse key concepts. Sharon and I regularly visit classrooms and listen to students read during their REVISIT/ ‘Read to Self’ time. It has been amazing to watch our students come into the classroom and settle quickly into their reading routine. Students unpack their belongings and begin reading very quickly at the start of the day. This reading time is very valuable because students develop their reading behaviours, work on their reading stamina and practice the reading strategy focus for the week. Remember this time is important, so please ensure your child is on time. If you are free to listen to students read during this time please let your child’s class teacher know. If you have any questions about our reading program please see Sharon, myself or your class teacher.

The Raising Children website is a site for Australian mothers, fathers, grandparents and anyone else who has responsibility for the care of children. RCN is a great source of information for parents. The website includes a wide range of professionals and agencies who work with parents every day – general practitioners, maternal and child health nurses, child care workers, preschool teachers, school teachers, social workers, psychologists and so on. http://raisingchildren.net.au/

Extend OSHC at Mount Waverley Heights Primary School

Hi everyone!

We had such a fun filled week, last week at Extend. A highlight of our week was cooking on Monday. The children made homemade pancakes topped with fruit and honey. They were

delicious! The children loved trying different variations of fruit toppings and making fruit faces on their pancakes. It was lots of fun! Science was fizzing this week as we made all different types of fizzing colours. I challenged the children to draw a picture with food dye and try to

get the picture to fizz with bi-carb and vinegar. The children loved giving it a go and experimenting with all different colours. Last week we enjoyed some arts and craft with

imagination creation, making our own dot-to-dots and painting all different plaster animals. It was a week full of creativity.

“It was so cool to see different colours fizzing up, the ingredients we had were bi-carb soda,

vinegar and food colouring.” - Ruby

“Today was an awesome day, the pancake cooking activity was delicious and Jakes sports clinic was super fun. I'm so glad I joined in.” - Ariana

Coming up next week:

Monday 12: Cooking: Blue berry muffins, Sports Clinic By Jake G

Tuesday 13: Imagination Creation, Ball Sports

Wednesday 14: Science: Hovercrafts, Playground

Thursday 15: Celebrity Heads, Group games

Friday 16: Specialist afternoon: Chess Club, Yoga By Jocelyn
