Awuna,
It’s been a wonderful term 3 with our students experiencing many op‐portuni es to widen their vision of what is possible for them in future years.
Recently the girls with the best a endance and be‐haviour a ended a week long exchange with Tintern College, Mel‐bourne. They stayed with very caring host families. The girls were able to experience city life and see the type of schooling available to some of the wealthier students of the area. Tintern is a huge school with farm animals and a lot of space for their students. Some of our girls wish to go there next year – full me! This
a ernoons; following by Clontarf trainings a er school. Both groups of boys have had the opportunity to go on camps and compe‐
ons by regular a end‐ance and a good a tude to others. The young men are very lucky to have such a vibrant program available to them.
On a staffing note – Mrs. Renee and Mr. James Rus‐sell celebrated the birth of another daughter ‐Charlie Rose. They will be back at Picka next term – I’m sure the students will love to greet them all.
Next term promises to be just as exci ng. We look forward to caring for your children and supplying a rich and exci ng learning program for them. Our Term 4 promises to be bigger and be er than term 3.
Have a safe holiday with family and let’s have as many students as possible a ending your college – Tiwi College ‐ in term 4.

Foreign
by Isoa Waqairagata
Cause i live in a foreign world
I’m a foreigner
Cause the things i value is foreign to you
To you I’m a foreigner
Cause my behaviour is different
For you to identify me I would be alien
Cause my worldview is unlike yours
I seem incompatible
Cause i speak a lan-guage strange to yours
I’m hard to understand
Do not disregard me
Contrasts may be vivid
Unassimilable we may be
Indifference you may feel
If you really examine a foreigner
Like me
To me you're just a foreigner
As I seem to you

Tintern College/ Melbourne Trip I had fun in Melbourne and it was a great me. All the Tiwi College students had a wonder‐ful me with the Tintern College School, but I enjoyed the MCG and the AFL game and Eureka Tower the most.
By Chris ne P
The best part of the trip was when we went to the football at the MCG. When we got to the oval we went to the museum and looked at stuff. We played games down there and it was fun. Then later we went up the Grand Stand and the other fami‐lies were there wai ng. We got something to eat and then the game started. We watched St Kilda vs Carlton Blues. The game was pre y good and I had fun.
Overall, the trip was good and we actual‐ly had lots of fun with our family. I en‐joyed every bit of it.
By Ella
The best part of the trip was going shopping with my host family. Winning the exhibi on for our Lino Art was also ex‐ci ng. We won $2500 for the school. Going to the MCG was great and we watched St Kilda and Carlton play. The game was a bit boring un l the 2nd quarter then it became exci ng. We were cheering the teams on. St Kilda won. By Leah

Paul Lyon—CSIRO Visit Last Wednesday, we had a visit from the CSIRO with Paul Lyons from Charles Darwin University, who had some exci ng fun learning Science ac vi es for the students to take part in. The students took part in a number of class projects crea ng sound / light instruments by assembling objects with ba eries and reading manuals to create sound and light. Mr Paul Ly‐ons was so amazed to see how the students in all the classes were engaged in their projects and is also excited in coming in next term to again work with the students. The
students were ac vely involved in their projects and interacted in groups to assist one another in comple ng their project for others to see. Well done students, you did your school proud in helping each other out and showing a lot of re‐spect to our visi‐tor by listening and tak‐ing part in the Science projects. Can’t wait
Junior School Scotch College came and worked with the Primary class to write books for our new library. We were divided into small groups to work with one of the boys from the college. We wrote adjec ves about a theme in each group. Our group wrote about the sea‐sons. Other groups wrote
about adventures on Tiwi, bush tucker, animals on Tiwi, hun ng and country. A er we had our plans we told the college boys our stories and they wrote them down. Then we typed them up and did photos and illustra ons for the stories. It was really fun and we learnt about Tiwi culture and seasons. At the end we per‐
formed a dance for the Scotch College people.

REMEMBER:
IT’S NOT OK TO BE AWAY!
This term the Middle School Young Men have engaged themselves in many differ‐ent learning ac vi es. Some have been challenging and some have been extremely fun!
In English the students have been looking at different scripts. They have been wri ng their own scripts on how a typical morning in class would unfold. This ac‐vity was very fun, with stu‐
dents’ expressing their imag‐ina on and making their scripts very humorous. Dur‐ing our literacy me the stu‐dents’ also spent two les‐sons wri ng an essay. With the teachers help students planned and wrote a small essay. The essay was tled, ‘What would we do with one
million dollars?’ As a whole the students’ were very selfless in their response and as you can see they pro‐duced a wonderful effort.
In Maths the student began looking at pa erns. Students created their own pa erns, learned to con nue pa erns and learned how to manipu‐late and interpret pa erns into simple rules. At mes the class has found maths challenging, but their resili‐ence and willingness to have a go has been a joy to wit‐ness. Keep up the great work Young Men!
In sport students started playing touch rugby. Even without having prior experi‐ence the students did amaz‐ingly well. I remember one lesson in par cular where Kingy, the youngest in the class, faked a pass and ran past me to score a try. It is always hard playing sport during the heat of the day, and their willingness to have a go despite the heat is fantas c.
This week the students were visited by Scotch College. Our students took
Scotch on a cultural trip to Karlslake. The Tiwi students showed the Scotch students the basics of spear hun ng and fishing with a handline. The highlight of the trip was when our students showed the Scotch boys some cultur‐al dances. When we got back to school the students joined in some ac vi es in the classroom. The Tiwi and Scotch students wrote rap songs together and present‐ed them to the class. Thanks to Scotch College for visi ng our school. We look forward to seeing you again in the years to come.
Thanks to the students who have been here every day, all term. Kingy Ullungura, John Micheal Moreen, Annis Guy, Richard Djorlom, Reg‐gie Mungatopi, Noel Tipungwu , Daniel Rioli and their families should be very proud. These students help make Tiwi College such a special place. I feel very priv‐ileged to teach such an amazing group of Young Men.
Thanks for reading about our class, I look forward next term. Mr Josh
Middle School Young Men
What would we do with one million dollars? We as the Middle School Young Men were asked what we would do with one mil‐lion dollars. We decided we would spend the money on the school to improve the standards for our living and our educa on.
The first thing we decided to do was purchase more vehi‐cles for the school. We need more troopies, buses and maintenance vehicles for the college to run efficiently. We would also purchase more vehicles for fun. Quad bikes and boats would enhance
our cultural experience at school.
A er improving the running of the school by purchasing vehicles we would improve the condi ons for students. We would purchase air con‐di oners for our sleeping rooms. We would also pur‐chase be er furniture for our homes. These small things would really help our livelihood at Tiwi College.
As well as improving our living standards we would improve our educa onal experience through the pur‐
chase of more technology. Each student would have their own laptop. Ipads would enhance our learning experience and we would learn how to capture and edit our own movies.
The reality is that we may never have one million dollars at our disposal. If we did we would en‐sure Tiwi College be‐came a
be er place for students. The day to day running would be improved by the purchasing of more vehicles. The stu‐dents would have be er liv‐ing condi ons and be er ed‐uca onal outcomes.
