Gomez's strong start leads River Cats to 6-1 Victory

Lollis, Ciriaco hit homers to pace the offense in Albuquerque

The Sacramento River Cats (33-51) rode a fantastic start from Roberto Gomez and a burst of

offense to defeat the Albuquerque Isotopes (41-44) by a score of 6-1 on Wednesday night.

Gomez took the ball in what was his sixth start of the year, and was splendid. The right-hander

threw a season-high six innings and gave up just one run when the Isotopes strung together

three straight singles in the second to take an early 1-0 lead.

The River Cats got their bats started in the fourth with a flurry of action. Left-fielder Chris

Shawextended his hit streak with a single on the first pitch of the inning, then catcher Matt

Winn doubled him home on the very next pitch. Two pitches later, first baseman Ryan Lollis put

an exclamation point on the rally with his first home run of 2017 to put Sacramento on top 3-1.

The advantage was extended an inning later when Juan Ciriaco launched a solo home run to

left center. For the utility infielder, it was his fourth homer of the year. He added an RBI-single

late in route to a 3-for-5 night with a run and two RBI. The River Cats lineup stuck out 10 times

as a team, but rode their three extra base hits to a 6-1 lead.

The bullpen came in after Gomez's excellent outing and was just as stingy. DJ Snelten came in

to deliver two shutout innings and Derek Law closed the door with a zero in the ninth to seal

the victory for Sacramento.

The River Cats look to win the series as they send right-hander Tyler Beede (4-6, 5.30) to the hill

to face the 'Topes. Albuquerque will answer with left-hander Ryan Carpenter (4-6, 4.77). First

pitch is set for 6:05 p.m. (PT) and the game can be heard live on the air on ESPN 1320 and

online at rivercats.com.

Postgame Notes

Longball Lolli: Ryan Lollis returned to Sacramento over the weekend after spending most of the

year with Double-A Richmond…Tonight's home run was number one for Lollis with any team

this year, and his first since June 19 of last season.

More on Gomez: Roberto Gomez was a reliever to start the season, but has been transitioning

to the rotation over the last month…this was by far the best start for the tall righty this

season…earned his second win and first as a starting pitcher, lowering his 2017 ERA to 5.92.

Rehab Report: With Madison Bumgarner and Conor Gillaspie shifting their rehabs to San

Jose, Jarrett Parker is now the sole San Francisco Giant on a Major League rehab assignment

with Sacramento…On Wednesday, Parker was the only River Cats starter without a hit, going 0-

for-5 with three strikeouts.

Quakes Rout Giants, 14-1

Bumgarner pitches four innings in rehab start with San Jose

SAN JOSE, CA - The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes blasted five home runs en route to a 14-1

thrashing of the San Jose Giants on Wednesday evening in front of a sellout crowd of 4,444 at

Municipal Stadium. The loss was the second straight for the Giants (36-48 overall, 6-8 second

half) to begin the series and their largest margin of defeat in a game this season.

San Francisco Giant Madison Bumgarner started on the mound for San Jose on a rehabilitation

assignment and was tagged for nine runs (all earned) on nine hits over four innings. Bumgarner

surrendered nine hits, including four home runs, with one walk and five strikeouts during his

76-pitch outing.

Bumgarner gave up just one hit - a solo home run - over the first three innings and retired nine

of 11 Quakes hitters to begin his start. Rancho Cucamonga though erupted in the top of the

fourth scoring eight runs on eight hits against Bumgarner during the inning to break the game

open.

The scoring opened in the top of the second with the Quakes' Ibandel Isabel connecting for an

opposite field solo home run to right. The homer, Isabel's 16th of the season, gave Rancho

Cucamonga an early 1-0 lead. The Giants though immediately tied the game in the bottom of

the second on back-to-back two-out doubles from Gio Brusa and Ryan Howard.

Bumgarner returned to the mound in the top of the third and worked around a leadoff walk to

keep the game tied before running into trouble in the fourth. DJ Peters led off the frame with a

towering home run to left - his league-leading 17th homer of the season - for a 2-1 Quakes

advantage. After Johan Mieses flied out, Luke Raley tripled off the center field wall and scored

when the next batter, Isabel, singled. A single from Omar Estevez followed before Drew Jackson

stepped to the plate and launched a three-run home run to left. The second homer of the

inning extended the Rancho Cucamonga lead to 6-1. The rally continued further with a Brandon

Montgomery single and after Yusniel Diaz flied out, Will Smith delivered an RBI double down

the left field line for a 7-1 advantage. Peters then capped the fourth-inning scoring with second

home run - a two-run shot to left - to make it 9-1. Bumgarner then struck out Mieses, the 11th

batter of the top of the fourth, to end the inning and his night.

The Quakes added on in the fifth with a pair of runs against reliever David Owen (3 IP, 6 H, 4 R,

4 ER, 1 BB, 3 SO) as Raley singled before Isabel doubled to put runners on second and third with

none out. Estevez then produced an RBI groundout before a Jackson RBI single made the score

11-1.

In the seventh, Mieses and Raley knocked out back-to-back singles to start the inning and both

would eventually score on Montgomery's two-out single. Rancho Cucamonga then capped the

scoring for the night in the top of the eighth on Mieses' solo homer. The fifth home run of the

game for the Quakes stretched their lead to 14-1.

Caleb Ferguson (5-4) earned the win on the mound for Rancho Cucamonga after limiting the

Giants to one run over six innings. The left-hander allowed four hits, walked one and struck out

five during his outing. Dean Kremer (2 IP) and Daniel Corcino (1 IP) then combined for three

scoreless innings of work to close out the Quakes victory.

Howard (2-for-3, 2B, RBI) and Brusa (2-for-4, 2B) had two hits apiece to lead San Jose

offensively in defeat.

leagues.
