Life Worth Saving, It Must Be Worth Living —steve berry : Humor is a gift we are born with and, used positively, is a source of major stress reduction, but it must nurtured and often times relearned for those working in emergency health care. our profession attracts some of the most dedicated and compassionate people. So much so that they often neglect their own needs. join Steve as he combines his EMS and cartooning backgrounds to speak the message of health and humor. o 1.5 Optional CEs

What is Going On in There

—kevIn McfArlAneAbdominal pain is one of the most frequent chief complaints for EMS. In this session, we will review abdominal assessment, evaluation and treatment of common gI/gU complaints.

F 1.5 Formal CEs

Death on Scene-ME —steve berryThe medical examiner/coroner focuses on preserving the evidence while you are bound to try and preserve a life. When should attempts at resuscitation be avoided and how can EMS develop an effective working relationship with the medical examiner and police to protect the integrity of the scene without placing the patient’s well being in jeopardy? There is an increasing need for EMS personnel to be better prepared in recognizing when to take a “hands off” approach towards the nonviable patient including training in scene preservation, evidence handling, and legal documentation.

—steve berry o 1.0 Optional CEs

With all of your educational background, strong parental guidance, and common sense you still entered the field of EMS and despite the availability of mental health counseling and prescription medication you continue to this day to remain active in the pre-hospital care setting. As a new generation of medics prepares to make the same mistakes you did, what would you pass on to them? How can EMS inspire and recruit future generations to join our ranks? As always Steve has some ideas to share--with some humor of course.
