Typographical Conventions

The following typographical conventions are used in this manual.

Table 2 General Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

ENV_NAME

TIBCO_HOME

TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. A product installed into an installation environment does not access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments.

An installation environment consists of the following properties:

• Name Identifies the installation environment. This name is referenced in documentation as ENV_NAME. The default value is TIBCO_HOME.

• Directory The folder into which the product is installed. This folder is referenced in documentation as TIBCO_HOME.

TIB_ADADB_HOME TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database is installed into a directory within a TIBCO_HOME directory. This directory is referenced in documentation as TIB_ADADB_HOME. The default value of TIB_ADADB_HOME depends on the operating system. For example on Windows systems, the default value is C:\tibco\adapter\adadb\ReleaseNumber.

code font Code font identifies commands, code examples, filenames, pathnames, and output displayed in a command window. For example:

Use MyCommand to start the foo process.

bold code font Bold code font is used in the following ways:

• In procedures, to indicate what a user types. For example: Type admin.

• In large code samples, to indicate the parts of the sample that are of particular interest.

• In command syntax, to indicate the default parameter for a command. For example, if no parameter is specified, MyCommand is enabled: MyCommand [enable | disable]

xii | Typographical Conventions

italic font Italic font is used in the following ways:

• To indicate a document title. For example: See TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Concepts.

• To introduce new terms. For example: A portal page may contain several portlets. Portlets are mini-applications that run in a portal.

• To indicate a variable in a command or code syntax that you must replace. For example: MyCommand PathName

Key combinations Key name separated by a plus sign indicate keys pressed simultaneously. For example: Ctrl+C.

Key names separated by a comma and space indicate keys pressed one after the other. For example: Esc, Ctrl+Q.

The note icon indicates information that is of special interest or importance, for example, an additional action required only in certain circumstances.

The tip icon indicates an idea that could be useful, for example, a way to apply the information provided in the current section to achieve a specific result.

The warning icon indicates the potential for a damaging situation, for example, data loss or corruption if certain steps are taken or not taken.

Table 3 Syntax Typographical Conventions

Convention Use

[ ] An optional item in a command or code syntax.

For example:

MyCommand [optional_parameter] required_parameter

| A logical OR that separates multiple items of which only one may be chosen.

For example, you can select only one of the following parameters:

MyCommand param1 | param2 | param3

Preface | xiii

{ } A logical group of items in a command. Other syntax notations may appear within each logical group.

For example, the following command requires two parameters, which can be either the pair param1 and param2, or the pair param3 and param4.

MyCommand {param1 param2} | {param3 param4}

In the next example, the command requires two parameters. The first parameter can be either param1 or param2 and the second can be either param3 or param4:

MyCommand {param1 | param2} {param3 | param4}

In the next example, the command can accept either two or three parameters. The first parameter must be param1. You can optionally include param2 as the second parameter. And the last parameter is either param3 or param4.

MyCommand param1 [param2] {param3 | param4}

4 | Chapter 1 Installation Introduction

Installation Environment

TIBCO products are installed into an installation environment. An installation environment isolates product installations. A product installed into one installation environment cannot access components in other installation environments. Incompatible products and multiple instances of the same product must be installed into different installation environments.

An installation environment is the top level installation directory for TIBCO products. An installation environment consists of the following properties:

• Name (ENV_NAME) Identifies the name of the folder where the product is installed.

In Microsoft Windows, the name is appended to the name of Windows services created by the installer. The name is a component of the path to the product shortcut in the Windows Start > All Programs menu. The default value is TIBCO_HOME.

• Directory (TIBCO_HOME) Identifies the directory into which the product is installed.

The installer installs any products to the default installation environment directly under the Windows Start > All Programs > TIBCO menu. For all other environments, the installer creates a shortcut under the Windows Start > All Programs > TIBCO > ENV_NAME menu.

TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation

Page 19: TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation · TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation |vii Preface TIBCO ActiveMatrix® Adapter for Database is a bidirectional

Installation Logging | 5

Installation Logging

TIBCO Universal Installer writes logging information to the tibco_universal_installer.username_install.log file.

The installer log file is available in the following locations:

• On Microsoft Windows: C:\Users\username\.TIBCO\install_timestamp

• On Linux: user_home_dir/.TIBCO/install_timestamp

To change the location of the installer log file, specify the option -V logFile="myLogFile" when you run the installer.

The installer log file captures the following information:

• Installation environment details, such as the user that invoked the installer, the host name, the Java home in the environment, operating system details, and so on.

• List of assemblies installed.

• Information related to the Ant scripts that are executed by the installer.

TIBCO Hawk Optional. TIBCO Hawk monitors and manages distributed applications and systems throughout the enterprise. System administrators can monitor application parameters, behaviors, and loading activities for all nodes in a local or wide-area network and table action when predefined conditions occur. In many cases, runtime failures or slowdowns can be repaired automatically within seconds of their discovery, reducing unscheduled outages and slowdowns of critical business systems.

TIBCO ActiveSpaces Optional. TIBCO ActiveSpaces is required if you want to publish messages to TIBCO ActiveSpaces instead of a database. TIBCO ActiveSpaces is a distributed peer-to-peer in-memory data grid, a form of virtual shared memory that leverages a distributed hash table with configurable replication.

TIBCO ActiveSpaces combines the features and performance of databases, caching systems, and messaging software to support large, highly volatile data sets and event-driven applications. With TIBCO ActiveSpaces, you can off-load transaction-heavy systems, and developers can concentrate on business logic rather than the complexities of developing distributed fault tolerance.

Note: Support for the connection of TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database to TIBCO ActiveSpaces is deprecated in this release.

A default response file is included with the product. You can edit the response file with information about your environment before launching the silent installation. The name of the default response file is:TIBCOUniversalInstaller_adadb_version_number.silent

The best practice is to make a copy of the default response file, edit the copied file, and then use it for the installation.

If you invoke the TIBCO Universal Installer with only the -silent argument, the installer reads the input from the default response file.

If you make a copy of the default response file and rename it, you must provide the name of the response file when invoking the installer. This is done by passing the following arguments on the command line:-silent -V responseFile="filename.silent"

where filename is the name you gave the response file.

If errors occur during installation, they are listed in the installation log file located in the User_Home/.TIBCO directory.

To install TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database in silent mode:

Page 38: TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation · TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation |vii Preface TIBCO ActiveMatrix® Adapter for Database is a bidirectional

24 | Chapter 4 Postinstallation Tasks

Postinstallation Tasks on Microsoft Windows Platforms

Before running TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database on Microsoft Windows platforms, you have to complete the following tasks:

• Configuring the Database Account Used by the Adapter, page 24

• Configuring the Adapter in TIBCO Designer, page 25

• Installing Additional TIBCO Software, page 25

• Setting TRA Properties for ActiveSpaces Connection (Optional), page 26

Configuring the Database Account Used by the AdapterSQL scripts are provided to set up the database account used by the adapter. The TIB_ADADB_HOME\config directory contains subdirectories for supported databases. Each subdirectory contains one or more scripts that are specific to that database vendor.

1. Open a command window and change directory to your database directory. For example, for Oracle:

cd TIB_ADADB_HOME\config\oracle

2. Change the create_user script by using a text editor to identify the account name and password for the database user who will run the adapter. If you use Oracle and decide to use the alerter, provide the account name to use. For example, for Oracle:

CREATE USER karlh IDENTIFIED BY adbuser;GRANT CONNECT, RESOURCE TO karlh IDENTIFIED BY adbuser;

Note the following conditions about the create_user script and the alerter function:

• The create_user script creates a database user account with the necessary privileges required for the adapter. While using an Oracle database, you can use the alerter only if you have the privileges to access the alerter package.

• When using the alerter function with Oracle database, ensure that you have executed the create_user.sql and alerter.sql files with the database account used by the adapter.

• When using the alerter function with Microsoft SQL Server database, ensure that you have executed the create_user70.sql and alerter_ms.sql files with the database account used by the adapter and enabled the service broker function on the database server.

Page 39: TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation · TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Installation |vii Preface TIBCO ActiveMatrix® Adapter for Database is a bidirectional

Postinstallation Tasks on Microsoft Windows Platforms | 25

-- For Alerter use onlyGRANT EXECUTE on DBMS_AQ to karlh;GRANT EXECUTE on DBMS_AQADM to karlh;

This account is used to connect to the database and access tables created when configuring an adapter. Note that a publication source table or subscription destination table can belong to a different schema than the default one specified in the create_user script. For more information, see TIBCO ActiveMatrix Adapter for Database Configuration and Deployment.

3. Execute the create_user script as the database administrator. For example, for Oracle:

sqlplus dba_user_id/dba_password@service @create_user.sql

4. If you use Oracle and decide to use the alerter, you must also execute the alerter.sql script. This script sets up the tables used by the alerter. Use the database user account created in step 2. For example:

sqlplus dba_user_id/dba_password@service @alerter.sql

Configuring the Adapter in TIBCO Designer

When configuring the adapter instance in TIBCO Designer, you must add the JDBC driver file to the adapter installation library directory: TIB_ADADB_HOME\lib

For example:

For Teradata database:TIB_ADADB_HOME\lib\tdgssconfig.jarTIB_ADADB_HOME\lib\terajdbc4.jar

For PostgreSQL database:TIB_ADADB_HOME\lib\postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc3.jarTIB_ADADB_HOME\lib\postgresql-9.0-801.jdbc4.jar
