ANNUAL CAMPAIGN 2016 WHY I GIVE?
I give to make a difference in a child’s life.—Member of 15 years.
IMPACT STORY– SOPHIE’S STORY As a single mother that works 2 jobs and has a special needs daughter it is important that my child has a safe and caring place to go while I am at work. The Tiffin Y has become that place for Sophie. At the Tiffin Y all the staff from the Directors to the Janitors know who Sophie is and take time out of their days to make sure Sophie is having the best experience possible. There are times that the normal routine of Afterschool care is to much for Sophie’s
system to handle and in that case Sophie is able to hang out in a quiet area and use some of the programs sensory tools to get back to being herself. I don’t know what we would do without the Tiffin Y and it’s staff. I had tried other childcare programs and centers, and Sophie never quite fit in. But now she smiles, and laughs. She still has her bad days, but
they are fewer and farther between than ever before. Without the generosity of the people who donate to the annual campaign we would not be able to receive the scholarship we receive. Then Sophie would not be in the program , and I
couldn’t imagine another place Sophie would thrive and grow as much as she does here. Please join our staff and volunteers in giving to a great cause.
About the Y The Y is one of the nation’s leading nonprofits strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Across the U.S., 2,700 Ys engage 21 million men, women and children – regardless of age, income or background— to nurture the
potential of children and teens, improve the nation’s health and well-being, and provide opportunities to give back and support neighbors. Anchored in more than 10,000 commu-nities, the Y has the long-standing relationships and physical presence not just to promise,
but to deliver, lasting personal and social change.
HELP US TELL THE Y STORY. OUR STORY IS YOUR STORY Whether you come to the Y to work, play or give, whether you are 5 or 55, we want to know what the Y means to you. Please take a moment and share with us why you come to, work for, volunteer with, or give to the Y. Share your experience, your fond memories, your passion, or what keeps you com-
ing back. To share your story, contact John Aragon at: [email protected]
SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
YOUTH IN GOVERNMENT—GRADES 9-12
The Ohio YMCA's Youth in Government Program enhances development of the American democratic process for young people through participatory training in the theory and practice of the Ohio state government. Teens in the program learn about the legislative process, how to write and research bills, and how to participate in elections. Their work culminates in teens
serving as delegates at their state conference, debating bills on the floor of the legislature. Some teens have actually written bills that have become real laws!
The program meets Tuesdays at 6pm under the direction of Ernie Berry.

WEEKEND FOOD PROGRAM (BACKPACK FOOD PROGRAM)
1 in 5 US children struggle with hunger. Children from low-income families are eligible to re-
ceive free or reduced-cost meals at school, but when the school day ends many of these chil-dren don’t know where their next meal will come from. As we expand the weekend food program to include more schools we are able to serve more students in the Seneca Country area. From 50 students in 2013 to 550 students in 2016 and for the 2016-2017 school year we are hoping to reach over 700 students in the county. The
goals of the weekend food program are to make sure that students have the nutrition they need to focus better at school on Mondays, to have less missed days due to illness, and to have less behavior issues. This program is funded by grants from the Tiffin-Seneca United Way, The White Family Foundation, The LPGA Marathon Foundation, and many other commu-nity organization donations. We also depend on our generous donors through our annual cam-paign. Thank you for the overwhelming support for this valuable program. If you know of a
student that could benefit from this program, please contact John Aragon at jara-
